For you too:
Start with Touhou 6 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
Your first goal is not to die. Just dodge the bullets while shooting - focus (you are flying slow) when alot of bullets are flying towards you.
Bomb whenever you think you are about to die. If you died - FUCKING BOMB QUICKLY. That's called a deathbomb. If you were fast enough you use a bomb and won't lose a life.

Oh yeah, the hitbox. The red orb when focusing is your hitbox. Everything can pass the sprite but if something touches that red orb you are dead (it's always there. Even when you are not focusing). Don't remember if it was already in EoSD. It's years ago since I last played EoSD.
Oh - you can very well play on easy modo. Nothing is going to say anything about that, as long as you improve and won't go around.
