Korea I can see because they have all those MMO money-farms and spontaneous Starcraft sessions. But what does Japan do to make 61mbps worth it?

Shit does suck. Even worse, my service has all these fuckwin plans for higher speed and somehow I'm eligible for none of them due to where I live...which is in the middle of a fucking city, not the boonies so it makes no sense.

Would I live 20m in front of my current location I would have 50MBit DL and 25 MBit UL for only a couple of bucks more than right now ;_;
This is why we can't have nice things

It's not an advantage if the police can monitor your internet connection and arrest you for piracy.

I know what you mean. I live just outside of San Francisco but all the good providers stop just a few blocks from my house. All I have available is AT&T.

Probably because your utilites are an undocumented, unmaintained clusterfuck of shit.

It fucking sucks, a lot of places in cities have gigantic scrambled rats nests of plumbing and wiring and whatnot, maybe whoever originally put it in had a sensible plan as far as organizing it, but over the years people change it, add shit, etc. without documenting what's been changed. Hence the installers from your local service provider want absolutely nothing to do with figuring out how to upgrade your internet.

This is how my friend got 5 Mb/s internets for free many moons ago, he bought a big spool of LAN cable, figured out where the internet went in his apartment's utility closet, and wired himself into an exclusive connection. It was lost in the rats nest of existing wires and no one ever noticed. Feels good man. [\spoiler]

I don't think Australia internet is that cheap.

2years back I pay about $39 bucks for 30GB data capped 1MB/512k Down/Up.

No way you can get internet at Australia for $1-$5 unless it is 1GB data capped or something.

Feels accurate. I moved to the Netherlands from Germany and have twice the speed for 1/3 of the cost.

Moving to Japan next year.
