Has anyone ever had contact with the Kojiki?
I was thinking about reading it, or try to at least.
Is it understanble and comprehensible for anyone outside the japanese culture? I have studied japanese culture and traditions for some years now, but im not a full-blown scholar.

It's a very strange book. Not quite as absurd as the bible or qur'an, but still very odd as far as religious/mythical texts go. Most of the confusion stems from characters being named after their function rather than having a proper name, although that can be remedied depending on the edition.

Any edition you can recommend with those alterations?
I've read The Tale of Genji translated by Tyler and had no big complications. I'm used to work function related designations.
I was hoping it would give me a greater insight to the japanese culture and heritage. I'm also planning on reading the qur'an and the bible.
I intend to read the bible last hoping to read it from a more imparcial point of view after learning about other cultures.
