But I can tell you most of the confusion for がcomes from fuzziness in translation from English into japanese of individual words that gets the meaning basically right but the grammar use off, because the grammar is so different.

If you're gonna ascribe an English equivalent for が here (which you shouldn't), が is the "is" part of the sentence, not "a"
