Anon, I genuinely, honest to God want to be wrong so bad. I have never wanted to be more wrong in my life. Me being wrong and learning that Mion really did kill everyone would instantly redeem Gou/Sotsu in my eyes because it would fix the biggest issue I had with the original Higurashi: Mion herself. Just knowing that this otherwise perfect boring cunt that seemingly came from a SOL series can actually be a human being with actual flaws and make really bad judgments on others like every other character (even if it was done artificially thanks to H173) would instantly boost her to being one of my favourite Higurashi characters, because it would change my perspective on everything she's done, it's that big of a deal. It would instantly calm down my brain by realizing that, yes, this girl that's constantly being an innocent victim can actually be just like everyone else and doesn't have to stick out like a sore thumb anymore. It's not that you have to go on a murderous rampage to be a flawed or interesting character (see: Ooishi, Rika, and lots of Umineko examples) but, in Mion's case, it really only seems possible to make her do anything wrong by injecting her with the crazy juice.

On the other hand, if I'm right and Mion really does end up being SO FUCKING PERFECT that she can resist h173 and doesn't do anything wrong, that would only accentuate my issue with her tenfold.

Jessica is basically a Mion that doesn't piss me off at all, because she's a hotheaded, extremely emotional dumbass who can make wrong judgments at times and screams that she wants to murder her lover's killer, instead of the paragon of innocence and virtue that Mion radiates.

Mion is just level headed and not a schizo like her friends. That's not so uncommon or strange. She just naturally deals with her suspicions non- violently and manages to not develop the syndrome.

The crazy juice injected directly in her blood should make her skip that whole filter and jump straight to schizo. But normally, Mion doesn't have the kind of emotional disturbances that allow HS to progress. Neither do most of the villagers, it's mostly the schizo teenagers prone to suspicion and violence going insane in every arc because they are have no filters and believe every single delusion HS whispers into their ears.

I love Higurashi so much, but it pains me that Hinamizawa isn't real and that I'm not a little 2d girl living in it, I played Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Mei where you play as a girl (which you can give a name) making friends with Higurashi characters recently and it almost made me cry, I really like the game, but I can't stop thinking "ah... this will never be real and I won't ever be as happy as my self-insert" when I'm playing it.

I'd really love to be any kind of cute little 2d girl in Hinamizawa if it were real, maybe a loli, or a Sonozaki, or even a demon goddess, all options would be great, but I'm stuck on this boring world, which constantly becomes meaner, back in the day I could kind of escape from reality by using the internet and even pretend to be in Hinamizawa, but nowadays it is impossible, there are too many "normal" people on the internet, I'll probably get some rude people replying to this post calling me names and assuming wrong stuff about me.

But, even though being a cute little 2d girl in Hinamizawa is my dream, I know it is impossible, at least during my lifetime, I don't believe in any religion or anything supernatural, I am a full science and technology guy, so I know that no amount of dumb rituals or praying will make me go to Hinamizawa, and I can't even kill myself to escape from reality, because I know that neither heaven or hell exists, it's just nothing after you die, so not even dying would bring me to Hinamizawa, maybe in the future technology will be able to create a virtual Hinamizawa where people will be able to transfer their minds to, but that is the far far future, and I'll be long dead by then, sure I can help it become a reality, but I won't be able to use it myself and live the life I truly want and belong to, as a cute little 2d girl in Hinamizawa, making friends and being happy.

I pointed out in the latter part of the post that you don't have to be a crazy murderer to be interesting. Most characters never murder anyone, yet I don't have a problem with any of them. Rika for example, she knows all about HS and has the least reason of anyone to have a grudge on someone or develop paranoia, yet she's so, so very flawed as a character, growing extremely bitter over the years and having becoming detached to her own humanity as well as her friends. Those flaws are the ones I want to see a character learn, develop and overcome. Those flaws are the reason I sympathize with her being a victim of 100 years of death, because so much of it is her own fault.

I want Mion to have flaws like everyone else that she has to overcome, but she never has any character development whatsoever because there's nothing to develop in the first place. She is what she is. Hell, you don't really even need character development if your flaws and conflicts are interesting on their own, like the Umineko adults' quarrelling in Legend of the Golden Witch, that was just them displaying how ugly they are on the inside, and it was really good despite never fixing those flaws. The closest to a grudge she has is with Ooishi but that gets solved in the most abrupt and unsatisfying way in Minagoroshi, not that said grudge ever amounted to anything substantial for Mion in the first place before that anyhow. Rather, it was mostly Ooishi's grudge with the Sonozakis instead that seemed to matter more, since it was a big part of his entire motivation throughout the arcs, because he thinks they murdered his father figure and are responsible for the yearly murders.

It's a discussion I had about this subject with another anon. The conversation is pretty long, but give it a read and think deeply about it, making sure not to rush it and understand the concepts. The thread will probably disappear in a few days.

You might not agree with this idea, but I think it's pretty logical when you think about it. I think it might be interesting for someone like you, who seems to believe that science has "proven" we just stop experiencing things for all eternity when we die. That idea is absurd and makes no sense whatsoever. And I'm not speaking about whishful thinking or spiritual mumbo jumbo, I mean it under the assumption that the material world is all that we have.

I have tried to attack my own theory and deny it in multiple ways, but it's logically undeniable (in my opinion) and that makes me feel more at ease with the universe and my mortalty. And I don't mean undeniable in the busllhit "unfalsifiable" way of things like devil's proof or the god of gaps. It's just logically rock solid, without any weird beliefs or personal wishes tainting it.

Nobody has standard character development in Higurashi, anon. They are the same person in all the arcs, the memories from other worlds just give them reasons to go down the right path or a bad feeling that makes them avoid the wrong path. The Matsuribayashi versions of the characters haven't changed or "developed" at all, they are just able to have gut feelings about their decisions and choose more wisely. But it's all pure feeling, not a real development that changes their life experiences, motivations or personality.

Mion is fine. She just hasn't fucked up so badly that she needs to get her shit together via flashbacks and memories from other worlds.

Higurashi does this weird form of character development through dejavus, while Umineko has all the characters literally stuck the same way forever but it's the reader who slowly learns more about them, making it feel like they changed.

The Gou manga is so fucking weird. It feels simultaneously slow and rushed. I love the visuals, but something about the pacing is off somehow.

Maybe it's because we are getting a chapter once in a blue moon, but it feels like a each chapter is a random scene out of nowhere that only barely connects with the previous one in the arc. And the chapters feel too short, maybe because there's not much dialogue, because it's not based on a massive VN? The arcs feel less like arcs and more like four or five key scenes from each arc without any attempt at creating anticipation, atmosphere or a proper narrative.

It's like an anime in manga form.

I swear to god, if there wasn't such a huge language barrier, SJWs would swarm Japan with propaganda and social media and completely subvert their culture in a couple of years. They prey on people afraid to offend others and push their nice-sounding agenda on everyone. Japs, with their culture of respect and non-offense, are the most vulnerable country. Rika absolutely does, that's what Minagoroshi is all about. Keiichi also overcomes issues during Tsumihoroboshi, not only does he bring up all his faults in Onikakushi and realize that Rena must be going through the same thing, he also stops feeling defeated at the thought of Rena bringing up his dark past. There's a long scene in Minagoroshi where Rena herself explains what she went through and the importance of communication in Minagoroshi having saved her from committing a crime rather than her simply saving herself, which is what Rika ends up learning as a lesson in that arc. Shion has hers after Satoko dies where she has a massive monologue about what Satoko's speech has made her realize, and she spends the rest of that arc self deprecating about how insignificant and worthless she is as a person, even wanting Rena to catch her using her detective skills. This is the reason Ryukishi picked the Satoko bit for her to remember in Matsuribayashi, it's not just a random scene that he picked on a whim. These examples aren't as extensive as Rika's since she's the main character and Minagoroshi is basically one massive character arc for her, but they're there nonetheless.

But like I said, you don't even need character development to be interesting, that's why I pointed fingers at Umineko, who does a really good job of making a bunch of interesting characters with zero character development, leaving the latter reserved for the main characters like Battler. My original point about Mion was that she was too flawless in the first place, she's a constant source of virtue and reason for other characters (including the Keiichi and Rena examples up above), she's someone that we constantly have to feel sorry for because she ends up as a victim, she's someone that regularly gets misunderstood because of rule Z, she's someone that is more of a support character because of that fact, because she is an obstacle that characters need to realize is actually innocent. Ryukishi felt that she inherently had to be safe and boring for the sake of that rule existing apparently, even though she herself could be a victim of it: when she suspected her family having killed Satoshi, she was convinced otherwise right away, so that character motivation went out the window and never came back. Whereas the other characters do have to deal with Rule Z through and through. Their past also can and does come to haunt them again rather than being forgotten.

Gou/Sotsu tells those rules to go fuck themselves since it's Satoko's whims that dictate who goes crazy, if anyone at all, that's why I had hope that Mion could finally shine.

What you describe isn't really normal development as a person, it's them having hunches and dejavus and not commiting the same mistakes again. But they haven't changed as people up until that point, they are the exact same with the same flaws, there is no magical development out of nowhere, that'd be ridiculous and silly.

Even Shion caring for Satoko and attending the school is a result of her remembering Satoshi early and making the right decision. She didn't magically become a more mature person in that world, she's as immature as she was in Meakashi but she happened to realize her mistakes thanks to the dejavus and not commit them this time. From that point onwards, she can be considered a more mature person than Meakashi Shion. But up until the point where she changed her path on a whim after having a dejavu, she was the exact same person. She didn't "carry over" her developent from another life, just traces of memories that let her do the right thing and develop as a person whithin this new world. She isn't already changed for magical reasons, she simply opens the path to proper developent.

Either Ryuukishi was setting up something for a sequel that will come up in Sotsu, or he had Rika forget it to explain how Bernkastel works. Maybe Rika deciding to be awake for her death was a terrible idea and the shock made her not only discard all those memories, but also the entire arc. All discarded memories form Bernkastel, that's why she's such a cunt. She's made up of all the tedious repeated events and gruesome deaths Rika had to forget to keep on living without going crazy.

The part I don't like is how all of Rika's character development from that arc got deleted, and absolutely none of Satoko's made it to the next one in the form of a memory leak like other people got. It seems like either a deliberate move because letting them grow past some of their mistakes would get in the way of something else down the line or a mistake made out of laziness after realizing that he'd already written like 90% of a perfect ending without having it be the golden fragment that Matsuri was supposed to be. Either way, a hack move.

I explained thoroughly how the characters go through their past flaws, overcome them and absorb the new virtues that they've learned from those memories, like, again, the value of trust and communication, the #1 treatment against HS. Shion no longer feels jealous of her sister, Rena no longer feels shy about asking people about her problems, Keiichi no longer thinks murder could ever be the right solution to an issue or thinks everyone's out to get him, all of these sound like character development to me. They aren't just casual remembrances and nothing else, all of them needed someone else to help them do so. Rena needed Mion, Shion needed Satoko, Keiichi needed all of his friends. Shion is a weird case because her character exposition about her mistakes and explaining everything wrong with her happens in Meakashi itself, rather than Keiichi and Rena whose character development happens in later fragments when they do need to remember past worlds and THEN go on a thorough explanation as to what was wrong with them, but it's there nonetheless.

I didn't say they were born as better people right away. Just because Higurashi has an unorthodox version of what constitutes character development doesn't mean anything. Again, I explained them thoroughly, they exist, just because they needed to be "transferred" over at a certain point in time doesn't make them not count. Up to that point Shion 100% thought Satoko was still the retarded crybaby she was in 1982 who caused Satoshi to eventually lose his mind, she even repeats that thought in her face as she's stabbing her. Only right after Satoko stops crying, gives her speech showing that she had become a completely different person and dies does Shion finally realize Satoko had changed and became a much stronger person than her, since Satoko never gave up hope. THAT's why she regretted her actions, she even admits right afterwards that the whole doing it for Satoshi was just an excuse she told herself and that in reality she knew he'd never want her to do any of this.

Obviously Teppei's case isn't as thorough or detailed since it's just a few minutes of an anime episode rather than a VN where he's the narrator, but from an objective standpoint, people can and do have massive character shifts in this series, thus Teppei's case is understandable and not out of the ordinary. Once inside he and rose talk for a bit before meeting Frank and Melissa Coolridge, Family long friends of Duke. They meet up with Mayor Applebottom who's having an meeting with the leader of his quarry strikers, Julio. They come to an agreement that he must give some of his land to A bar owner rusty, Duke, And Frank. He agrees, since he's known them since they were kids. It's found out later that His wife Abigail is dying from TB and that he was an orphan who was saved by Dr.Kissinger.

Duke is forced to escort Julio back to the quarry and John leaves with Mayor Applebottom to go to a party in town. There he meets amanda who plans on killing him, but is interrupted when her boss,Rusty, kicks in the door drunk and begins beating her only to be knocked out by John. Annabell is with Amanda while she is given stitches by John and she says how she's pretty much her mom since Annabell real mom is too old and sick to take care of her self.

John get's drunks and passes out, in the moring Rose and Abigail corpses are found at the manor, then Their buttler Dweebis in the guest room. They go back into town only to find Annabells mom and The town's pastor boiled alived in a barrel in the sherrifs office, After that they find Rusty's body pirced with a pump in the saloons basement, After that they find Melissa corspe in the gun store with her eyes popped out and her ears bleeding, With frank having no tongue,ears, and mouth. After that Amandas friends Hank and otto are dead with otto being gravely wounded. Otto runs into a corn field while the group chases, Once they return they find Hank and frank cut in half on top of The saloons roof.

Annabell get's shitty that every person who was ever kind to her is dead and runs to the church where Duke and Calvin chase after her. The group then hears screaming, and proceeded to chase after them. Inside they find Duke's and Calvins body burnt to a crisp from the inside out.
