PC-98 ferver comes and goes with announcements of new games. It's a cycle. When Touhou 13 is announced, there will be endless threads claiming it will have Mima/Yumemi/Shinki in it, I guarantee it.

I think the latter two are neutered since they were paid homage in UFO, but Mima still has a chance. After all, Yuka came back in PoFV as fanservice and despite only having that one appearance she became extremely popular. Since Mima's the final member of the MS party roster and such a recurring character, she may yet be saved for last...

Touhou 2 had a remake, with EX Cirno as Extra Boss and Yukkuri Shitte Ne for Phantasm.

Unless you hated it just because it interchanged the first 3 stage characters for Cirno, Momiji, and Alice and are pretending it didn't exist...

Gameplay and music is same, with better graphics and Sanae and Yuyuko playable

Well obviously, but ZUN never made remakes in the first place, and he wasn't even the sole creator at the time. If you want to go into purist mode, if he actually did remake them, purists will rage about how it's still not made by the real original creators and then ramble on about how ZUN is ruining Touhou. "Fuck off primary fans, zeroary fans only!"

I don't want them back as final bosses. If ZUN makes another phantasmagoria game he should quietly slip Mima in. Say she was stuck underground. Worked before.

My favs though are all the cute lesser characters like Kana Anaberal and Yuki and Luize. Nice hats everywhere back then.

PC-98 doesn't even register as Touhou for most people, and ZUN is essentially making them noncanon by remaking characters that do appear in Windows in ways that conflict with PC-98 versions, so it's as if they don't exist.
