What happened to the SHMUP genre? It used to be so big and popular with Ikaruga, R-Type, Gradius, Rez and many others. But now nobody seems to give a shit anymore, except those japanese still playing Touhou. Is it dead for good?

They're hard. Gamers nowadays are pussies. They want hour long tutorials, cutscenes, infinite continues at 1 minute checkpoints, and being able to finish the game on the first playthrough. The shmup genre is primitive. Games nowadays are fusions of different genres. Metroid for example is a FPS, platformer, action/adventure, RPG, and puzzle-game. Plus it actually has a plot. The platformer genre is almost doing as bad as the shmup genre. The reason for this is because it's not a good enough genre to stand on its own.

Also, get over yourselves. Being able to beat a 2bit game like Touhou does not make you better than the average Halo or Super Smash Brothers fan. Here's a plan, pick out an 'easy' game with multilayer. Get your ass handed to you by a fan of said easy game, then discover that you are not so special after all.
