What percentage of Japanese people do you think know how to swim?
Can you swim?
According to NBC, 60% of black people can''t swim, so it makes me wonder whether or not the people of an island nation can beat that significantly.

>> No.3527356

Of course, they all need to know how to swim so that they can leave japan in an emergency.

>> No.3527367

British sailors used to never learn how to swim because they thought knowing how to swim while being on a ship brought bad luck.

>> No.3527369

Anyone who can't swim should be taken out to sea and thrown into the ocean. Worthless.

I'm black and can swim, fuck yeah.

That's how I learnt how to swim!

I was tossed into the ocean and left to fend for myself. if I made it back to shore under my own power, then all would be well.

If not, too bad.

'course the first time, i walked along the floor of the sea while holding my breathe to get back to shore.

But I got the hang of it eventually.

Swimming isn't something you need to be taught. It's too easy. Everyone should be able to do it at birth.

>> No.3527399

>>3527397
What what? Can't you swim?

>> No.3527408

No. It might be something that is easily learnt, but I don't think it's just a natural human ability.

>> No.3527413

>>3527387
I almost agree, but my little sister nearly drowned when she was 3 or 4 because her floaties slipped off. I think that by 6-7 years old is a bit more reasonable.

>> No.3527418

Did you give her mouth to mouth?

>> No.3527425

>>3527369
Why would I need to know how to swim? I'll never be in a large body of water.

>> No.3527432

I can swim but I've only done it once in the last 10 years. I jumped in the sea and became exhausted from the waves in no time. Slight panic moment there. Had to swim back to shore on my back because my weak arms were useless.

>> No.3527434

>>3527425
Well you apparently have the ability to see into the future so I guess swimming is a paltry ability by comparison.

>> No.3527438

>>3527413
6-7 really is the best age for learning how to swim.

It's too late for me now. I start panicking whenever my face comes close to going underwater. Shit sucks.

>> No.3527436

>>3527408
Well, no, it's not a natural ability, but anyone who doesn't panic should be able to figure it out quickly enough to not drown if they happen to be thrown in. The problem is mostly that they panic.

The only people (who aren't physically disabled) who don't know how to swim are the people who've never honestly tried.

>> No.3527444

>>3527418
I'm only 5 years older than her, so the memory's a little vague. I do remember yelling "Mom, Emmy's floaties came off," her dashing from the porch and diving into the pool, then holding her over her shoulder and trying to knock the water out of my sister's lungs while my dad called an ambulance. Apparently her heart had stopped or something, but in a couple of minutes my sister was breathing and conscious again, so we drove her to the hospital.

>> No.3527445

>>3527434
Seeing as how I never leave the house, and there are no large bodies of water nearby anyway, I think I'll be alright. If not, then I'm not too worried about it. It's not like I have anything to live for, anyway.

>> No.3527450

>>3527436
I don't know, I think swimming has a certain degree of technique required to *really* swim. You could throw me in a body of water and assuming it was a controlled environment, I wouldn't panic and would be able to stay afloat for a little but, but I doubt I would naturally gain the ability to swim well enough to prevent drowning after a short while.

>> No.3527454

I used to love swimming but now I'm afraid of any water I can't see the bottom of. I blame you faggots for posting pictures of sea monsters all the time.

But you don't know how to swim, right? Really, saying you wouldn't be able to swim is like saying you wouldn't be able to climb a ladder. Once you've got the basic balance and motor skills you developed just to walk, it shouldn't be a problem.

>> No.3527472

I'm not a good or fast swimmer, but at least I can do it somehow.

We used to have swimming class at school, it sucked.

>> No.3527480

>>3527468
I don't think that's a fair comparison at all. You can hold onto a ladder and do it slowly and at your own pace.

Show someone who doesn't know about a ladder and they can slowly go about it. Throw someone who can't swim into water and they have a short amount of time to learn before drowning.

>> No.3527481

Back then when I did not know the concept of the internet, swimming was fun.
Plus, it's hard to NOT be near the sea here, vacation time without swimming is weird.

That's not true at all. As an anon above me mentioned, pretty much the only way to drown is to throw a fit and start inhaling water like a moron. You float naturally (especially in the ocean, because of the salt content).
