3526813 No.3526813 [Reply] [Original]

If you think about it, all these youkai could live for hundreds if not thousands of years. Human life span to them is like a blink of an eye's time.
In a way, all these friendship with some human (like with Reimu and Marisa), adventures, emotions, wonderful times, etc, they spent together means little to a youkai.

Afterall, for a youkai it's just a blink of an eye's time. They'd forget everything about Reimu and Marisa after a few more reiterations of making new human friends after the previous generation.
So basically what we see now is just an insignificant tiny instance of a slice of time in the Touhou universe. As meaningless as to Suika singing and dancing for 100 years straight.

For example, Gensokyo used to be a GRIMDARK place where Youkai went around munching on humans. Now it's a happy fairy-tale Oz where humans and Youkai live in peace and harmony. Aren't retcons great?

anyways, just because to them it's a short time doesn't mean it's meaningless or insignificant. well, since 20 years translate into one youkai year, 80 years (it won't be that long since humans are mostly active from 15 years old to 65 years old, or 50 years) is only 4 youkai years (or 2 and a half youkai years). So it's basically highschool.

No youkai will kill Reimu, because they know if she dies the border falls. Before the spellcard rules, this meant that no one could fight her.

The spellcard is a compromise between the youkai and Reimu. As long as they stick to spellcard rules in their battles amongst each other and with humans (youkai are obligated to not kill a human if he defeats them in a danmaku battle), they can fight Reimu as well. And if they win, she can't do whatever she wants.

Of course, she wins most of the time anyway. But youkai need to fight so they don't lose their powers, so everyone's happy.
