That's exactly what's happening. A small percentage of Japanese people make entertaining things, and you go around treating them like gods, ejaculating at the thought of even talking to one? That's a new breed of pathetic not even /jp/ sinks to.

There's nothing wrong with Google Translate; it's good for a machine translation. Do you really expect it to translate into perfect English? Do you realize how insanely difficult, no, impossible, making a perfect machine translator would be?

My question is: How accurate is the translation? Because Google Translate is horrible at Japanese among other languages. The only ones it did right were German and Spanish.

I will when there's an easier more reliable way of learning it. I'm not expecting to learn Japanese in a day but come the fuck on. Heisig and all that stuff is fine and swell but its tiresome and doesn't actually teach you shit.

You'd be better off stalking Japanese people online and begging them to teach you Japanese.

>Heisig and all that stuff is fine and swell but its tiresome and doesn't actually teach you shit.

Heisig is a starting point. If you don't know your ABCs you're going to have a very hard time reading anything.
After Heisig and basic Japanese just go on to AJATT.

>> No.3517772

>>3517757

I know but its not reliable, its tedious and stressful. Its not just for Japanese either but for everything. Teaching yourself something with no assistance is frustrating.

Classes help alittle but they can only do so much. There is no real reliable way to learn a language that's not gonna make impatient people like me rip their hair out.

I know many people on /jp/ will scream and cry when I mention this, but for real basic Jap you could go with Pimsleurs and just listen to it on your way to places, if you go anywhere.

You should be able to find a torrent for the MASSIVE Japanese Pimsleurs. It might take longer for the same number of words than a traditional language tape/recording but it's much better than a tape that goes "This is the word for car, repeat it 3 times, and now we will never mention it again". You won't really learn grammar or anything, but if you really don't know more than cute, little sister, brother, mom, dad, and cat or there about you'll notice that you can understand quite a bit more while watching anime or J-dramas after going through Pimsleurs.
I'd also suggest finding out what each word in the sentences they use mean so you know more than just sentences and actually what each word or particle means.

You can also try Power Japanese. It's a really old program but has a major focus on grammar which you might like if you find Tae Kim unbearable.

>> No.3518122

>>3517934

How good is Power Japanese?
Looking at this right now, seems a little dated...

>> No.3518149

>>3518122
Like I said, it's old. For basic grammar though it's really decent. I personally looked at Tae Kim and have a book on basic Japanese grammar, but starting off, if you don't want to just read about grammar it gives you a good starting point and has many exercises for practicing the basic "Modifier comes before the modified" rule they give you.
Most modern programs don't like to cover grammar, but in Japanese, because it's so different from English, it's a very important part of learning the language.

Ok, thanks. I'm trying to use a combination of Rosetta Stone, a Berlitz book, and a Jap-Eng dictionary.
Just recently started, not much free time with collage, but it's a better way of relaxing in my free time instead of browsing 4-.... damnit...

China's most popular instant messanging program, QQ, has a feature where you can search for new contacts by age, location in China (or elsewhere), gender, etc. So you can actually meet new people.

Does MSN or this Google Wave have anything like that?

So I can actually talk with random people from Japan or elsewhere?
