Counter is too slow. If they're charging at you with a skill up, cancel your skill (backspace is hotkeyed) and attack. Only use counter immediately after hitting them back really hard, or if you know they've just started charging smash. Normally, use defense immediately after knockback.

And if you're ranged, always keep in mind that mobs have HORRIBLE pathfinding. You can get them stuck on anything. Including trees.

That aside, you will soon realize that every mob has very predictable behavior patterns which you can use to predict what they'll do almost every time. After that, you just have to give your command a bit earlier than you see a mob doing anything and hope your prediction is right (most of the time you can also change your choice if the mob isn't too fast).

The enchanting mechanic in this game is teh shitsux. Everytime i attempt to (Rank D enchant btw), i have at least 4 heart attacks before i hear the fucking failure sound along with "Enchantment failed Big tiem!!" while my character does a little sad dance.

In case you didn't know, thief is a suffix and the kite shield had a spot for a suffix enchant. I think i'm pretty sure I knew what i was doing, burning mah headbands in a Rank C campfire(which boosts the success rate of extracting) and using INT-boosting food/titles to increase the rate of enchanting an item.

What other possible factor could I have missed other than hiring other "enchanters" that have the same shitty success rate as me?
