Was it ever mentioned where exactly Fate's Camelot stood?
IRL, there are two primary theories I'm aware of. One is from Le Morte d'Arthur, Malory identifies Camelot in Winchester, which is also the location many others reused since. Archeological evidence also points at a hillfort in South Cadbury, Somerset, which fits the role of potential real Camelot well in geography, size, and age.

It's not elitist to say a translation is trash. Learn Japanese, it's actually good for you and you can read a lot more stuff. You don't have to be at the whim of publishers and get fucked like the Fate/Zero manga and have it end when there's only a few volumes left. Don't blame others for your own folly.

Learn. Japanese.

>Uro: Unlike Fate/Zero, where all the main characters are older, this one has lots of cute heroines! Fate/stay night was originally conceptualized as a bishojo game, so the very individual theme of "romance" was placed at the core. It had to be written from Shirou's point of view. So then I thought, I have this really powerful core idea of all these Eiyuu (heroic spirits) engaged in a Battle Royale, so why not draw their story from multiple point of views? That's why I tried to work more main characters into Fate/Zero other than simply Kiritsugu and Kirei.

>Nasu: I had no other choice but to make Fate/stay night the way I did for that bishojo game format. That was one of the reasons why I once said to Urobuchi, "I don't think I can make bishojo games anymore." The more you pour both what the author wants to draw and romance elements that will excite the users into a work, the more distant they get from each other... that was my dilemma. I think Fate/stay night does lack that "battle royale" atmosphere, but I really wanted to make it a work that would make the users want to get to know Saber and Rin better, or cuddle with Sakura.

Examples?

Nasu himself does imply Zero is a serious work over FSN.

>Nasu: I told Aniplex's producer that I wanted the Fate/Zero novels turned into an anime. It was a good suggestion. Many anime fans want there to be a lot of cute bishoujo characters in the work, and while they work hard to meet those needs, Iwakami, an important producer at Aniplex, wasn't satisfied just by doing that. I suggested that he tackle Fate/Zero, a dark and serious story full of raw emotion. He had the resolve, and that's how they ended up adapting Fate/Zero.

>entire point of Kiritsugu's end in Zero was him realizing his mindset and the way he lived his life were fucking awful and did nothing but render him miserable

>awry sense of altruistic duty
>he wants to become like the Kiritsugu he looked up to as a child, the problem is that wasn't the real Kiritsugu. He realizes he's chasing an impossible ideal in two of the routes, UBW and HF. He plows forward anyway in the former and in the latter he explicitly rejects it, but continues to pursue it
>really nice and gentle to everyone around him and really cherished his friends and let them take the spotlight despite him also having big dreams
>handyman
>brave
>live in a big-ass mansion from Raiga Fujimura
>genuinely nice guy
>hates alarm clocks
>having to let those kids die in Fate (big deal, since those are the people he wanted to save back in the fire), accepting that trying to save people is nearly impossible in UBW, or important people vs the rest in HF
>terrified of Sakura being involved with the HGW in Fate/UBW route
>he risk his life every night creating an artificial magical circuit out of his nervous system
>halfway point of HF is when he finally starts making decisions for himself instead of going with the flow and living in his step father's shadow.
>in Mind of Steel, adequately narrated by Kotomine as he supresses the urge to laugh maniacally as Shirou goes down the good ole misery and self-loathing route
>point of him choosing to save Sakura, a person he cared about, showed that he was transcending Kiritsugu's cold hearted way of thinking and moved onto something greater

One of main themes of HF is what defines good and evil. Shirou states that he doesn’t give a damn about justice and evil after abandoning his ideals when he talks to Kirei. He also calls out Shirou’s hypocrisy by stating that he truly can’t be good if he’s protecting a murderer. His ideal was never truly tested in such a human way before that it confuses Shirou. How can he even think about being a hero when the person he considers family was abused and never saved by anyone? Shirou loses more than he gains and that’s fine. Nearly every character loses in someway and are beyond redemption. Still, Shirou still wants to save those he loves. Even if he’s betrayed everything, he wants to save those he loves. Even if Shirou and Sakura are bad people, they can still try and take responsibility for what they’ve done and help those that need help.

Well said anon. Except Shirou and Sakura are not bad people. They're both damaged people, both of them in specific ways that compliment each other perfectly. They may think they're bad people, but that's not true.

Sakura was manipulated into doing the bad things that she did, and she wasn't even in full control of herself for the worst of them. The crushing guilt she feels at the end is proof that she's not a bad person.

And Shirou didn't really do anything bad. He prioritized the person he loves over the faceless masses, but that's something all of us do every day. That's human nature, and it's proof that Shirou is moving past his PTSD-born heroic autism.

Jeanne Alter became sort of a meme over the years, but I still find the idea of an "angry" Jeanne very interesting. We're told that Jeanne has no anger inside so she can't become an Alter, but she definitely has damn good reasons to hate people who burned her alive out of sheer spite. Besides, in contemporary literature, Jeanne was often described as hot-tempered and sharp-tongued with soldiers (which is expected, you don't fire people up by preaching to them all day). So many fans might not take her seriously, with all the fanservice going on, but Jeanne Alter is a side of Jeanne that definitely needs to exist, or she becomes far too one-dimensional for such an important historical figure.

Thanks for the optimistic answer. With the announcement of Tsuki R it seems like TM is finally able to announce stuff that's not FGO related so I also have hope for the future for them. I do expect a new release edition, but I do hope for a tease for Mahoyo 2 that can be worked on down the line while Tsuki Far side is released before it since they seem to be working on that as Tsuki R is probably done already and they can re-use assets so it should come out in a year or two. I doubt Mahoyo 2 will be a thing, but it can happen at this rate. I also don't want to be strung along for years like with Tsuki R so I'm not sure I'd want that. I also have grim memories of the original Mahoyo getting delayed so many times.

I wouldn't mind one, but I think you would have to contrive or change quite a lot to have it work and not just kinda crap on her story in the other routes.

Mind I think theres probably a decent story to tell there if you did it right, and that she could have some interesting interactions with shirou, but some of it would kinda just be a retread of HF and having her be the heroine would feel kinda weird unless the setup was changed rather significantly.

Yeah, the setup would have to be changed significantly. I'd see it working similarly to the near-side/far-side split in Tsuki. Caster doesn't care about the grail war, she wants to cheat it entirely. Rule Breaker also allows her to recruit someone like Lancer who didn't really get the spotlight. The story would have been very different with her as the main heroine.

I agree, but I dont think its for the reasons you suggested (or at least the way I understood it)

While caster has no need to win the HGW for some grand purpose, she still does need/want the grail itself, shes still on board with the holy grail war even if has the ability to fuck with it thanks to her noble phantasm and magical ability. The big change would (beyond the difference her skillset could make if used differently) would be in the setup, since a bunch of the leadup events would have to be different for her and shirou to end up together.

If I had to try and figure out a way for it to happen I would imagine it would involve Shirou being the one to run into her rather than Kuzuki, and unknowingly getting involved with the HGW when he tries to help her. And from there you would have the slow lead-in to the whole shebang as shirou slowly comes to learn just what hes involved in while caster tries to keep him safe by keeping him in the dark about much of it, also because shes not particularly proud of the things she does in the HGW.

>Someone like lancer
That could be cool, although he gets some cool bits in UBW. Honestly i'm kinda interested in what you could do with Kojirou more, hes kinda one dimensional, but his obsession and dedication to his craft could have some neat parallels to shirou's ideals. He is also after all just some autistic weirdo who through pure dedication ended up on the same playing field as legends.

Not in the way the others do though. The others have to go out, find and defeat all other servants to win. Caster doesn't. She can hack the grail from the safety of her own home. This route would have been a more defensive one, as Shirou wouldn't have to go out each night. And with Sasaki, Saber and maybe Lancer at her side she'd have access to enough firepower to give even Gil pause.

I can see the route starting as you said, with Shirou running into her instead of Kuzuki. Medea plotting in secret while Shirou being a white knight slowly melts her heart, a confrontation in the middle when Shirou learns the truth, and a final battle where others attack her to stop her from claiming victory instead of Shirou and co going on to attack someone to stop them.

True, but she still needs the other servants gone at the end of the day.

>I can see the route starting as you said, with Shirou running into her instead of Kuzuki. Medea plotting in secret while Shirou being a white knight slowly melts her heart, a confrontation in the middle when Shirou learns the truth
Heres what I wonder. How would the route differentiate itself from HF? What would Shirou's arc be that isnt done in a different route?

>> No.34863317

>>34863182
>True, but she still needs the other servants gone at the end of the day.
That's the thing. She doesn't. As soon as she hacks the grail she wins, even if she hasn't killed a single servant. The others need her gone, but she couldn't care less. That alone is a major difference with the other routes.

>How would the route differentiate itself from HF?
You mean thematically? True, it'd be pretty similar, but then again Shirou's arc in FATE and UBW aren't that different either. He keeps pursuing his self-destructive Hero of Justice ideals in both of them. Why not have two routes where he rejects them?

And there would be differences too. Sakura kept suffering and was manipulated into doing the bad things she did until she finally snapped. She wasn't in full control of herself. Medea would be. She would have done everything on purpose, realizing exactly what the consequences of her actions would be, and Shirou accepting that would have been an interesting arc as well.

>> No.34863613

>>34863317
>She doesn't
Im pretty sure she still does. She needs the power of the grail, even if she can bypass the "interface", she still needs it filled up with all the energy to have her access matter, and for that servants need to die.

>True, it'd be pretty similar, but then again Shirou's arc in FATE and UBW aren't that different either.
True, so what would be the semantic difference? UBW has shirou be a hero like in Fate but just do it worse. So what would be the difference between this and HF?

>She wasn't in full control of herself. Medea would be.
Thats true, but Sakura also went quite a bit beyond what Caster does even as a villain, and Caster would probably go even less far in a route where shes the heroine and has Shirou around.

I could see the arc being something like "shirou is confronted with injutice and decide on whether his job as a hero is to protect the most (numerically) or the most injured (in terms of "I was wronged") or something. Idk, her thing is basically a less extreme sakura.

>she still needs it filled up with all the energy to have her access matter, and for that servants need to die.
Not really. The Grail needs mana to be filled. Souls are a convenient source of mana, but that's not necessarily Servant souls. Servant souls are just more powerful. That's why Zouken had Sakura eat people, and that's why Medea's original plan was to bypass the war entirely and kill everyone in the city to fill it. And I Caster Route Medea might even figure out a way that doesn't involve killing people and draining them of their souls to do it.

>UBW has shirou be a hero like in Fate but just do it worse. So what would be the difference between this and HF?
The difference between HF and the Caster Route would be similar to the difference between UBW and FATE.

>her thing is basically a less extreme sakura.
Intent matters. Sakura never intended to do any of the bad things she did, the final confrontation has Shirou bring her back from the brink of despair, and the epilogue has her learn to overcome the crushing guilt over the things she did. Medea would have none of that. She fully intends to do those things, the final confrontation wouldn't be with her dark side as the villain because she has no dark side, and she would feel no guilt in the aftermath. Saying she's "a less extreme Sakura" means ignoring everything that's actually important about their personalities and their circumstances just to focus on superficial similarities in their actions.

>and that's why Medea's original plan was to bypass the war entirely and kill everyone in the city to fill it
I dont remember that if I'm honest. As far as I remember her plans were to just win the grail war, albeit through underhanded means. It's why in the fate route where shes left alone to do as she pleases for most of the route she just stocks up on mana and then tries to steal/beat saber.

>> No.34864550

>>34862219
Eh, more are definitely just there for the ride or just happen to be summoned in Fate (Lancer, both Assassins, Rin Tohsaka, Berserker, etc), but Fate happens to incorporate all of the characters introduced in the first route into all of the routes in some way, leaving any exclusive characters for the last playable route so it feels less like they got shafted from the rest of the VN and more like "a new challenger appears". In Tsukihime, Arc doesn't have much of a personal stake in the Far Side routes, so she's written out. You could argue that technically she does, but finding and killing Roa is less of a priority since she's never weakened and more like something she simply does on auto pilot. It's kind of weird for such a prominent heroine to disappear for half of the game, and even moreso when she's the eponymous character, unless I'm missing something.

No, her plan was to store enough mana to bruteforce a grail manifestation and hijack it without needing to fight at all. Stealing Saber was because she wanted a knight when the other servants would come to stop her. And because she wanted to dress Saber up.

The reason she needs saber normally is to deal with berzerker, but hes already dead by that point.

I don't understand why people like Medea. She's the blandest servant of the original cast and not a very interesting character overall. Her design is nice I guess, but it hardly carries her past other Servants.
Sure, their weird relationship with Kuzuki is curious, but it's not substantial. In the end, she was just a mid-point boss.

What if the arc is about "what does it mean to be a hero who saves people"?

Basically the opposite of kiritsugu, who technically saved lots of people in terms of raw numbers, but saved only one person (if you can call Shirou saved) on a personal level. "A hero must still remain human if he wants to actually offer salvation" or something.

On a more concrete level, I dont think you can have it play out like HF, since a large part of that route is that Shirou does value some lives more than others, and someone he would have just recently met wouldnt fall into the former category.

Does she though? Herk is tied to Illya, other Servants are main characters. You could argue that Cu doesn't have much going for him either, but he has ties to Kirei. Medea, meanwhile, is tied to Kuzuki, who is a complete non-character, and her personality is "an evil witch in love with some guy", it doesn't ever go beyond that. Even for a waifu, her design without the ominous coat is pretty plain.
I know she has her fans, I just don't get where exactly they're coming from.

My guess is that he simply didn't have time to develop Caster's Master. He wanted to put some fun spin on a battle with Caster, so he turned her Master into a professional killer embued with Caster's magical energy. Every Servant has a twist, and this was Caster's twist. However, the story didn't allow any screentime for Kuzuki at all, so we ended up with a really damn silly Saturday morning cartoon villain who simply barges in and starts destroying everyone until it's time to kick the bucket.

And still has nothing going for him beyond "well hes not actually entirely mindless, isnt that neat", his genuine affection for illya is the one thing he has beyond being a raging monster.
Cu meanwhile is just a jerk/cool guy who likes fighting people, him being tied to a more interesting character does nothing for him.

>>34865445
I don't think he has enough screentime to be able to receive a proper classification, seriously hes in like one route for half of it if that, what little he gets is fine imo, its just theres not much of it.

Whereas everyone else vaguely remembers their experiences, Caren is the exception, because unlike everyone else, she wasn't there originally and is just sending a part of herself into the 'dreamworld' in place of where Kirei would originally be... but then you have the eclipse epilogue in which she seems to remember avenger so who knows.
>Does Caren know that Kirei is her father?
Yes.
>So at least Saber, Rider and Lancer are still there outside the dreamworld, what about the other servants?
If the flashback scene with Kuzuki and Caster is to be considered a glimpse of the same continuity's past, then Kuzuki's dead at least, and so is Caster if she didn't find a new master.
Really though, it doesn't actually matter. It's just the result of a 5th grail war that we'll never see
>Are all the eclipse scenes canon?
If you want. The epilogue's definitely canon at least.

It’s best to think of HA like a singularity from FGO and Caren as a copy of the original person that went into the HA world. It seems like the Jem sword explosion is a real event that happened which set things off. I believe that HA is a new timeline from FSN that’s a world that has all of the servants alive. Caren lost her memories of what happened in HA but I feel that she gets a small lingering feeling of wanting to visit Fuyuki in a spiritual sense. She’d probably be curious about what her other self is experienced in the HA dreamworld so her going to the real Fuyuki is inevitable. I like to think of HA as a separate timeline from FSN which explains all of the things that would be hard to explain what happened there.

The best part about it is that she served as their obedient cumdumpster for months, perhaps even years, routinely getting dragged by force in that filthy former restaurant, fulfilling the gang's sexual, pubescent urges everyday after school. And she isn't even protesting.
She's letting them use her however they see fit, taking it like a good girl, absolutely not reacting in the slightest, probably more still and unmoving than a sex doll. Kohaku would be the proudest little thing. I bet they even raped her in the ass.
