They (were) both Koudansha writers who've written for the same literary magazine before. Apparently they did mingle for some time at least. They've definitely read each other before. Supposedly there's an interview in some issue of Faust where Nisio says he's influenced by Nasu, which would be referring to Tsukihime or maybe KnK.
When the Zaregoto series came out there was a big overlap in Nisioisin and Nasu fans and the two of them were seen as being at the forefront of kind of underground subculture media.

sparkly sparkly

>> No.34726670

>>34726125
Don't feel like writing an essay but HF is great since it challenges the core aspects of the previous routes. It's basically a subversion of the Fate route, which was kinda stereotypical and really straighforward, from almost every point of view. Also we get to see more of Kirei and Illya, two of the most interestic characters in the series.

>> No.34727103

>>34726147
>>34726670
There are definitely some parts of HF that are interesting. Shirou abandoning his ideals for just one person is something I didn’t expect to see. Kirei’s backstory is very cool. I didn’t like the twist that Illya is actually older than Shirou, felt like a leftover from her route that didn’t need to exist anymore. I think the end completes Shirou’s arc across the routes from sidekick to hero to martyr.
I think my main problem is that while HF carries itself like the grand finale, I never buy it. UBW felt like a great foil to Fate, I loved seeing how much of a royal ass Archer could be. That’s not to say UBW is perfect (I think the Rin romance felt undercooked compared to Saber), but in most aspects I consider it a direct improvement over Fate. I won’t say I was never surprised by HF, but no twist got a reaction from me like the UBW twists.

Why not? HF has the grand reveal of nearly everything. You don't even know the true purpose of the key part of the setting (the grail war) until that route.

How can the fist fight between Shirou and Kirei not be seen as the grand finale? The truth of the war is revealed and HF finally has them all going to destroy the corrupted miracle that all of the magi created. How is Shirou finally finding his original reason to live besides the ideal that was given to him? What about Illya finally finding her own freedom that sets her apart from Justeaze and using her own will to save the one that she loves? Kirei finally admitting that he felt envy towards Shirou for finding salvation unlike he was able to after looking for it all of his life. He finally find some amusement in dying and seeing Shirou off as the overseer should with a smile on his face. Everything about the finale calls back to all of the previous routes. HF is the culmination of all of the previous routes and finally finishing off each of the human charcter’s arcs in the finale with Rin being able to finally save Sakura after her magus side stopping her from acting like her human self. Sakura is saved by Shirou and Rin and is free from the chains that bound her with Rule Breaker. HF is a masterpiece because it both deconstructs and reconstructs Shirou from losing his memory of his father’s ideal to being reconstructed as he declares his original ideal of wanting to save the ones he loves. It shatters all of your expectations due to the shadow killing off most of the servants early on and even losing Saber early on. It’s perfection.

I like Archer. He’s involved with some of my favorite character interactions in the whole game. I love the moment at the end of Archer vs Lancer where the latter can only ask “Who are you?” Then he goes inside to presumably save the day, only to flip the entire plot on its head and become something of the true antagonist. The Archer vs. Shirou fight is pretty good, if only because you really get a feel for how much Archer hates himself. Keep in mind I’m not usually a fan of lightshow fights in anime.

No problem. It’s best to think of the routes as supporting pillars to keep supporting the next routes questions and charcter development going until HF finally finished all of the charcter’s arcs. While Sakura isn’t my favorite heroine it’s also important to understand where she’d coming from and the distinction between the Dark Shadow killing people with its own will and Sakura never wanting to kill anyone but being influenced by Angra. She also has fantastic scenes like the rain scene and the knife scene which are both underrated since the worm jokes have ruined her charcter for some people. She’s not the girl that I love but it’s best to appreciate her great scenes and at least understand her situation. It’s also neat to think of HF as both a deconstruction of Fate in general and a reconstruction as the stories dark twists are built back up to a happy ending for our charcters. It takes time to appreciate how well written HF is and seeing all of the subtext that Nasu left for players to pick up on. Remembering Fate and UBW and comparing it to HF and seeing how HF uses those routes to better enhance the story makes HF my favorite. The other routes are great too, but the way HF was constructed is brilliant.

Shirou always had a bit of Archer in him. He wasn't some noble prince, he was a disgruntled mechanic who seemed to fail at everything other than fixing air conditioners and feeding lazy housemates. The only job he could get was the one that left him with a cracked shoulder and an arm doused in acid.
Needless to say, he wasn't the most cheerful bloke in town.

The only time he acted happily was when his close ones, like Sakura, were happy. He later got a good look in the mirror when Saber acted in the exact same way, smiling only when he did, and he definitely didn't like what he saw.
Ever since FSN, Fate media tends to portray Shirou in an overtly positive manner, and that bothers me sometimes. No, Shirou was not a smiling retard, nor was he some paladin. He was a broken fucking guy who didn't know what to do with his bloody life, and he easily could've ended up like Archer, that's the whole point.

Still, you're right that when he gets there, he deserves to be with Artoria. I also like the ambiguity behind it. Shirou lived the best life you, the player, could imagine for him, and that's what got him to Avalon, which is better than a basic list of feats Nasu could've come up with. Well, I finished Tsukihime for the second time, the first being about a decade ago.

I think the overarching storing is melancholy and sad, no matter what. All of the main characters have sad backstories. Even most of the main endings aren't completely "good".
...but you know, for being a story about vampires, death, and killing, there sure is a lot of non-violent conflict.

In terms of routes and best grills, I think I like Arcueid the best. Hisui is a close second. It's wrapped itself up nicely I suppose, but I can't help but feel a little melancholy about all the... unhappiness. Ah well.

Anyway, I tried stumbling my way through Kagetsu Tohya once upon a time but found it to be too cumbersome. I'm considering trying it again. Are there any story elements it adds to Tsukihime or is it not worth the time?

Poor directing for UBW is the usuals critique. It’s still had a decent reception and most people seemed to like it. Summary of Camelot part 2 production notes by the director:

Director Kazuto Arai talking about Fate/GO Camelot2 production. He wanted a Disney-like character-based system for action scenes.
Tristan: Takumi Sunakohara
Gawain: Itsuki Tsuchigami
Agravain: Hakuyu Go
From storyboards to KA, solo. Expectedly couldn't 100% pull it off, but each drew ~100 cuts

Except for Furukawa Ryouta, who soloed all of Lancelot's battle. "That guy is amazing" he says. He took a hands-off approach when it came to them. He told each to do their parts the way they wanted, from color to music to everything, he will just do support.

"We had 4 Directors instead of just one" It put huge strain on schedule, since each wanted to do something different with his part and keeping consistency was a nightmare, but "The movie on screen is the result of sticking to this approach of going all out, and then exceeding that"

And then Hakuyu Go. The last battle was Arai's, but he somehow couldn't draw something fit for the climax. Struggling and redrawing multiple times, Go suggested letting him do rough layout (LO) for the scene. Arai describes it as "A Miyazaki's Heidi or Kon's Patlabor2 LO-System in a hurry

So Go did rough LO for all 130 cuts of the last battle. Credits are: SB/Direction: Arai, Screen Composition: Go. "He really saved me."
Don't forget Go ALREADY handled over 100 cuts on his own AND helped supervise (AD) other's parts.

>That costs a lot of money and Aniplex may not deem it worthwhile in terms of production cost to revenue
Not at all. FGO makes billions. A movie costs maybe 2-5 millions. It's nothing for Aniplex.
Even without that, a FSN anime is a guaranteed hit. More movies, more money.
>Ufotable might have been booked for other projects after so slipping in four movies might not have been possible.
No. They had enough time to plan everything properly.

Nigga it was basically a highlight reel.

I'm glad they didn't show the two scenes where Shirou punches ilya

Does (Nanaya) Shiki really become the head of the Tohno household in Hisui's True end? I mean I read it of course but this would mean all "legitimate" descendants wouldn't have demon blood in them(since I'm assuming if Shiki produced offpsring it would be with Hisui). Doesn't this also mean that Shiki is, in a way, the best Tohno household head because his Nanaya blood fits well with destroying monsters, meaning any branch family members with inversion impulses would be easily taken care of? Also, his Nanaya blood would be passed down to his descendants too, so...

Shiki sort of usurped the throne of a powerful, influential, rich family in that ending... and they are sort of better off for it.

Is it the best Tsukihime ending?

>> No.34775334

>>34775151
I mean both Akiha and Kohaku die so I don’t think it’s the best ending in Tsukihime for Shiki. Doesn’t the Tohno clan have other board memebers that would fight for the head clan leader?

>> No.34775385

>>34775151
Nah, as far as I remember and understand it, Shiki and Hisui leave the mansion, the titles, and all the half-demon stuff behind to start a normal life away from all that shit. The mansion, titles and possessions of the main Tohno branch is probably taken over by a branch family.
Which makes it the best ending.
