Sengoku Rance thread! Because the previous one is on autosage.

I'm planning on completing the progress report in just two more playthroughs. I don't think there's any reward, but I'm a completist and I'm enjoying it.

I have to kill Souun for one event, and I also have to clear him. I don't think I could do it, short on loading a save file and replaying through half the game.
In any case it'll be easier to do it in two. When I go against the Hades boss and the Orochi, I don't want two generic archers taking precious commander slots.

Currently trying the 3 fans in 13 turns strategy (still newfag clearing routes) and raging at sill's dungeon event refusing to show up in kyo no matter how much i reload. didn't have to reload once to get it last route...

also, what are the best bonuses when you have few points?

Maybe you need to have Suzume first, just do some other event then do the dungeon in the next turn. One or two extra turns won't hurt, it's not like you have to, or need to reach that fan within 13 turns, it can be 15 or anything as long as you are satisfied with yourself

It can take forever. I left three countries alive and literally sat there for about 30 turns until the first one was recruited by Iga of all people. Thankfully, the other two were recruited soon after that, but it can take awhile. Just try to keep capturing/killing all the other generals to force them to recruit new ones.

Well, if you have a couple Defense-Attack textbooks, you can use them on Maeda keiji, and then use two satisfaction bonuses on him.
If you do not, forget it.
Then, you can hire the sister from Kyo.
Finally, conquering Takuga, Mouri and One Eye gives you good footsoldiers each (Takuga is a decent choice)

The idea is to take an average unit that has no special skills or stats and give them the item, to make them worthwhile(since for really good units, there are few things you cann add and they have better items to use).
Daidouji who gains troops and needs stats is an example(and she can gain even more).
Agireda too.
Masamune also could use it to build up special attacks/skills and some troops.

A decent footsoldier is another choice(give them Ally Guard plus + Extra initial guard, plus spear attacks and troops).

Rance's Love is tricky because it requires you to have access to the character's homeland to be able to get the powerup (the first 2-3 times you may get lucky and have no beginning of turn event, but I wouldn't count on it). You can use the Popularity Staff on that character and switch to Rance's Love when you have access to their homeland, or equip it to a character with their dialog option in Oda.
The Brute Photo is much slower, but since it adds only one Affection per turn you can equip it on a generic (with no dialog option) since they'll never "waste" an affection point by going from 6/7 to 7/7 like it'd happen with Rance's Love.

...Now, that is a tricky one.
Since you have her in the Ran route all the time, making her a bit better is a good idea, but only Shoun and Omachi are really great.
Even Kojika is a better diviner choice.
She could make use of it, but she is never really useful.
Plus, you most likely already give her affection through events.

I do the same! On games other than 5-star I don't really look at the cost, but definitely use it on my best unit.
The exception would be Daidouji Komatsu. It's sad to see a Bushi unit with 2500 troops and garbage stats when she could have 3000 troops and great stats.

You're absolutely correct, and I do manage my gold in 5-star runs. On anything less though, I find that I tend to let my gold pile up because I just don't need to use it. Once in a while I have to "wake up" and blow 50k or 100k on troops. I'm not so good at keeping track of these things.

Nope, definitely scales to your troops, however, the scaling is different per region - basically, the game has scripts for everything and different algorithms for scaling the troop count - the way Dokuganryuu scales is different to the way the Demon Army scales, which is very different to the way the Hannys scale (read: not at all).

There's some "rules" for scaling. Like, any unit with less than 300 troops doesn't count. Ashigaru units don't count either.
Problem is, units you receive scale too. I read that some people have been minmaxing by keeping 300 troops per unit before engaging opponents (to reduce enemy troop counts), and dismissing one guy before receiving new units to maximize them. Even going as far as using the +5000 troops item to do so.

Loot is an excellent way to earn money btw. I always get +1000 gold per battle.

And now that I know that foot soldiers don't affect the scaling, it looks to be a more and more viable strategy to have one footsoldier defend and one footsoldier to loot/attack.

You can't capture them because they're in a scene when you conquer Uesugi. If you want them you have to wait until they get hired by other houses and capture them from those houses (Honda Masanobu works the same way even though he obviously doesn't have an H scene).

That's odd, Musket units are usually pretty fast.
But the ring was probably a bad idea either way... Musket units do damage equal to their troop count. Attack is wasted on them. They should never be attacked directly so Defense is usually wasted as well, and Int has no particular effect on them either. If you're saying you can't use his 3rd action either, then it means the Speed is the only benefit you get.

I feel the nanjo ran route hurries you too much...

You have to close the holes fast or you will fuck yourself over...and once you close the holes the end game timer starts running. You can push the demon army to the last 2 provindes with no problem, and take as much time as you need to build up.

Cant see levels but the only high level characters i had were rance and sill, the rest were doing shitty damage due to level gap with sekimei. Rance with 5 action points ran out of moves, luckily sill finished him off. Gekkou/Suzume/etc were doing jack shit(50-100 hp or less).

As I said, I only did THREE dungeons, so take their starting levels.
And no, Rance and kentarou cannot solo him, One Percentage attack and a normal attack kills Rance almost always.
Assuming Kentarou lives from percentage attacks without help.
Being lucky and him using it ONLY once is not the normal.
You need healers/diviners/footmen plus some luck to beat Xavier, no matter levels.
If you have all that plus lv99 Kentarou, THEN it's easy.

You should have Plenty of books (levies+dungeons).
As long as you do that and have fulfilled Hibachi requirements, it's easy to get +2 plus 100 extra kills.
Even at his low level, he can 100+ damage on anything in dungeons at that point.
But only Rance can really skyrocket to AWESOME with not overwasting resources (since half of the ones that do the trick are derived from satisfaction)/

Ah, little Kazemaru.
I actually used him in my last game. Got him, used all those stupid books on him to make him 6/6/6/4, used both first powerups to raise his speed to 6, and of course the Hibachi bonus hit right after the 6th speed point, so he became 8/8/8/8 with a passive +50 damage bonus.
I was bored so I equipped him with the Emperor Ring.
Instant 9/9/9/9 character. It was amusing.

Im having trouble figuring out how to make a 4th defence group to get the takeda bonus(Defend against all 4 attacks). Playing on normal.

1st group :

Rance, ranmaru, shibatsu katsuie, shizuka, gekkou and maria

Second group : Senhime, leila, tanegishma, suzume, uruzu, katsumi

Third group : Maeda(shitty int though, really hurts his guarding), takuwan, askura yoshiaga, nanjou ran, rizna, natori

I have kazemaru, komatsu, okita, fuuka and yukihime, and some other random commanders for construction...

You should put your BEST guys(damage dealers/time wasters/good stats) against Baba and Yamagata.

Koshikage and Tourin are much more forgiving in comparison(use there generic footsoldiers and simple range attackers).

Try to rethink your formation.

Just don't forget their rotation: The first attack will most likely end in an assassination attempt from a ninja, the second one will use battle rating rape (or not if you are lucky), the third and the fourth one will use brute force.

You guys ever use Goemon, I don't usually use generics but this mofo is loaded. He comes with all sevens and six speed, most skills and pretty good neg and search.

The two actions points aren a problem but he'll mostly assassinate anyway.
