How does Japan, a warrior culture (whether they were good or bad warriors is up for debate, but I digress) who has been responsible for some of the worst offenses against human rights and nearly conquered asia single handedly end up creating anime the eye-bleedingly cute (and irritating in my opinion) and end up becoming characterized by it? Most of the Japanese "war crimes" were simply defeating one's enemy by 20th century standards.
