The old guard dwindle by the day, slowly but surely replaced by a new generation of posters. It feels like I've little in common with people and the things they like anymore.

I wonder how many of those anons back from the 2000's-early 10's ended up taking the rope or just became as close to normalfags as they could.

That's just what getting old is, and it's amplified by the fact that you aren't normal. Even if you're referring to other people who use this website, who also aren't normal, it's only natural.

>I wonder how many of those anons back from the 2000's-early 10's ended up taking the rope or just became as close to normalfags as they could.
I think most of us wonder this. It's also not like they just couldn't have stopped visiting or visit less frequently now. I started visiting around 2010 and I visit a lot less frequently than I used to.

Why?

Things changed. This website has changed. That doesn't mean I've stopped being any less of a weeb, and I'm certainly not going to try to be something I'm not. So I'm in limbo now. Maybe one day I'll take the rope. What I am now and what I probably will be for the rest of my life is:

to normalfags: the kind of weird guy who doesn't talk much and doesn't seem to fit in anywhere
to anonymous of the future: that occasional anon who posts about old shit

It only gets worse, trust me. The worse it gets, the more you stop caring about other people entirely. To be clear: 4chan is not the cause, it's alienation. I wonder what happened to the hardcore anons who started browsing this website when it first launched and had their entire family die, or never had one, and are now older? How many sociopaths have had their road overlap here?

Gatchashit isn't anywhere near "new", otaku have been using real life gatchapon for eons without even getting a game out of it, and it's no tlike cute girls and boys are anything new to otakudom either. What possible reason could you have to hate gatcha outside of it working its way into places it doesn't belong like MMORPGs and multiplayer e-sports games. It better not be because it takes up a few board slots.

My day consists of pretty much refreshing the /jp/ catalogue. I earnestly don't use any other website now unless I need to look something up.I used to like posting on old forums, back when those were a thing. The Off Topic subforums were especially fun. But nobody uses those anymore, and constantly dealing with the retards who use the internet now is just so tiring either way. My old friends have professional careers now and are either married or have girlfriends and others just went dark entirely, I've not talked to anybody even in an online capacity in maybe two or three years outside of family. It feels like my integrity has been cracking lately, but I just can't use shit like Discord or IRC or get along with people as well.

I think I started posting here back in early 2009, maybe a bit later. I think those were really the best years of my life, it was easy to get along with people and guys would always hit me up to play netoge together. I miss those years, and my friends too. I'm aware this is solely my own fault, however. I'm sure years from now some people will look back fondly on these years, as well. I could easily just abandon all inhibition and fire up Discord or go real out there and visit boards like /soc/ or /r9k/, force myself to be amicable. But I just can't do it.

Sorry for the blogpost but point is, I don't think it's an all that special case and many anons probably have similar circumstances or worse. I don't know what I'll wind up doing myself, but there's a lot of dark routes you can easily go down if you lose your wits. Hope you oldfag lurkers have been holding up okay.

I'm a newfag but I ended up posting on /jp/ because I was a big fan of Touhou and especially Touhou music for quite some time ever since I got introduced to it when I was 11. I often look back at the archives for /jp/ back in the early 2000's and it seemed very nice and comfy. I can see why you guys would get nostalgia from the good old days when your board was full of people that you related to and felt you had a connection with.

Maybe the old posters just ended up growing out of the whole otaku phase of their life and tried to act normal to fit into society like you said.

I wonder how things would have turned out if moot actually made that doujin and VN board. No mods could justify dumping trash topics on the board by pulling the usual "it's otaku culture" argument if that were the case. However, it would really suck for the other topics like, for example vocaloid and idolmaster, as they would still be stuck here with all the j-pop stalkers and facerig memelords. I have been trying to come up with a board name for a some kind of /jp2/ that also include things like figures, tea, etc. as well as doujin and VNs that I would want to suggest on the empty void known as the feedback page, but I just couldn't think of anything.

It's a feedback loop more than anything else. I know a lot of anons that are still out there as they've always been but just don't like coming to this site like they used to because it feels like the userbase has changed too much. The less they show up, the less they want to show up. and there's not really anywhere else to go except their own private cliques

>No mods could justify dumping trash topics on the board by pulling the usual "it's otaku culture" argument if that were the case.
It would be shit because the only reason people would talk about VNs would be to talk about the big ones that were popular back then, so it'd just be endless Type-Moon character threads after people stopped caring about Clannad, Kanon, Utawarerumono, and certain others that were flavors of the month. There would probably be the occasional waha thread, but no one would play that game. It would be even worse once the gatcha took off. Fate and other gatcha posting would either be justified directly or shoehorned into generals about the work the gatcha was based on.

Outside of that, it would be a VN gallery dumping ground, people constantly complaining about it being SFW (If it were NSFW it would become the De-facto ero game board like /jp/ was before and be nothing but porn and fetish discussion, while people complained about loli being deleted), and by extension a gatcha game gallery dumping ground. (Even more if it became the ero game board, as ero gatcha would end up included) If Flash games were included as doujin, VN, or Ero game, then it would also be a flash game gallery dumping ground.

Doujin games, as someone who likes them and tried to make threads about anything but Touhou on /jp/, I doubt there would be any interest outside maybe a general where people begged for links and a ero doujin game equivalent of it. There would still be endless Touhou threads, though probably drowned out by Fate and maybe an 100% Orange Juice thread when that got popular with /v/ tards, but nothing about Suguri or anything. Other games including Touhou fan ones that weren't RPGs, would probably just drop to page 10 immediately. Maybe a Yume Nikki general and a RPG maker games adjacent to Yume Nikki general, along with an Elona General and Violated Heroine General.

Ero games would probably worm their way into the board anyway and we'd still have threads about whatever shit Illusion game or 3DCG or whatever other meme game of the year is, though not as badly as if it were NSFW. Of course there would be fighting about whether western indie games count and would probably resolve into western ero games, western indie games, and western VN generals. And then people would try to post KS everywhere and start shit even though they had a general.

>However, it would really suck for the other topics like, for example vocaloid and idolmaster, as they would still be stuck here
I'm sure there's some Vocaloid VN or such people would use an excuse to discuss it, or something relating to MMD. iDOLM@STER would probably be included for being VN enough and probably other raising games like Princess Maker series would be allowed if VNs with raising game aspects were allowed, which they would almost certainly be along with dating sims. There would probably be other games with dating sim and VN aspects people would try to squeeze into the board as well. You'd also have to deal with modern iM@S gatcha threads as a result though.
You wouldn't be free of streamers unless lets plays were completely banned, both from users doing them and from linking to other people doing them. Which would also probably cause complaining of people linked to people playing for the sake of showing strategies or something.

I estimate it would be nearly completely dominated by Type Moon character threads and VN gallery dumps, while Touhou would be more in whatever /jp/ there was because of discussing the manga and music, unless it was a DOUJIN board and not just a doujin game board, in which case it'd be dominated by Touhou and random porn manga, and the official manga would sneak in too. Vocaloid would also be there because doujin music, and "doujin" would generally have the same excuse as "otaku" does here, with people posting some doujin manga image or drawing their own image and calling it doujin and using it as a front to discuss the real topic.

>a board name for a some kind of /jp2/ that also include things like figures, tea, etc. as well as doujin and VNs
imo, a /jp2/ should be a /jp2d/ and ONLY about "2D" things. Real life Japanese and Wapanese topics like tea and camera threads belong on the board with TV shows and idols. There shouldn't be a single thing more "real" than a figure or physical disc/k on /jp2/. Merge old 3D /jp/ with /cgl/ as well to punish those pieces of trash writhing in their safe space and force them to look at women who are more desirable than them all day.
