Well, this is the anounced rance 2 remake, made by the artist of rance 5D, Rance VI and Sengoku Rance, so you should expect nice art.

Personally I would be more interested in Rance 3 or Kichikuou Rance, those are great games (And Rance is even more AWESOME than always)

Orion was asked if they were going to do III remake, and the answer is "there's no time".
Rance 2 was decided on because it's short, and they need to get something out in time for the 20th anniversary of Rance.

They were planning to release Rance VIII for the anniversary, but because TADA is working on something else, the project is on hiatus. So they had to make up for it with SOMETHING Rance related, and II was decided on.

Rance III was too big of a project (the game is long, like Rance VI) to work on and get it out on time.

These were stated in the staff pages in official Alicesoft webpage.

Besides, if they had the time to do something big like Rance III, they'd rather work on VIII instead.

Thus the heroines of TH2 were sent into some generic RPG game called Final Dragon Chronicle.

Kichiku-oh is the last of the old-school Rance, over a decade old man.
The art is old, back when Mutsumi was still the main artist and Naraken was still drawing Rance.

Learning on your own is doable depending on what type of person you are. I wasn't able to do it myself, which is why I had to resort to classes. And yes, I have to travel through two cities to get to the closest university that teaches it. Seems like there's not all that many places that teach Japanese, even near the most populated areas.
Contributing to translation projects does sound interesting. I have a bit of experience in that field (English is my second language), and while I'd rather work for money, if there's a game I really love and feel that the language barrier shouldn't stop people from playing it, I might put some effort into that too.
I think learning a language is a really great investment.

What's awesome about Alicesoft is, they make their older games free public distribution.

Meaning, awesome games like Kichiku-oh and Rance III are perfectly legal to distribute on the internet.

Nobody else does this. NO ONE.
Most of them (like Elf) hangs on to their titles so they can make a shoddy remake and cash in on them later.

Yeah, Rance2 is getting remake and included in Alice2010.
But the original Rance 2 is still free.

I realize they're very small files, but I get corrupted data even for many 250k images I try to view. Sometimes I get Content Encoding Errors when I refresh a 4chan thread with mostly text in it.

If by "America" you mean the US, then I can't totally agree... it has loads of problems. Illiteracy rate is pretty damn high (one people out of twenty can't read at all), obesity is rising at a terrifying rate, it's still swamped in religious myths and I heard they even put metal detectors in high schools now.

You're thinking of soft vinyl.. these are resin cast.
Soft vinyl is easy to mold, and cheap.... but they lack the details of resin casts.

This figure was a limited number sale that was only sold at one event (2006 Winter Wonderfestival).
It was 42,000 yen (400 bucks) at the time, but because it's a limited number collectable (I think they only made like couple hundred) this figure has a massive collectable value now.

I don't know what it goes for, but I'm sure it's in the thousands of dollar range.

There are cheap taiwanese pirated ones of these on the market though.
The details are totally lost due to 2nd hand casting, and it looks downright atrocious compared to the original, but they are damn cheap.
