'Mountain courtesan' is a mistranslation of 山女郎 which is just another term for 山姥 (which makes it unclear how she's different to Nemuno). 女郎 can mean prostitute, but it can also refer to any young woman.

it's almost certainly meant to be dayu, which was a aristocratic title for chinese folk that got attached to all the diplomats from china, then wound up being a title for a class of japanese bureaucrat, then by the Edo era it became a sort of title for leaders of groups of things like dancers, theater groups, and *gambling establishments.*

i'm guessing whoever edited the wiki just googled 太夫 and took the first result that popped up. because research is hard when we can just assume instead that zun, one of the dudes on the planet with the most chaste writing imaginable, is calling a newhu a prostitute in universe.

I think it's interesting the last few games seem to have "gangster/societal underbelly" themes for lack of a better word. AoCF was basically Jo'on and Shion hustling money, 17 showed off Hell's Yakuza and their gang wars, 17.5 relates to the discovery and monopolization(?, Kanako's in it so presumably) of oil and the main theme of 18 seems to revolve around casinos and marketing.

Maybe it's just me but the overall themes lately really do feel remarkably modern.
