I can't believe Android Girl was 2 years ago.
Various releases by Wotaku come to mind. John put out a few good, quirky songs, his popular ones. Subeteanatanoseidesu's stuff is good UTAU. I think Utsu-P put out an album. Monaca Factory released all of his albums for free recently. Check your usual suspects like Deco*27 and PinocchioP too for any new releases.
I've been digging through old stuff, so haven't been keeping up with new releases closely.

Never paid that much attention to Vocaloid, but recently found mikgazer vol 1 from a post on another chan and had it on repeat for a couple days. It's easily my favourite shoegaze album now. I imagine it's probably entry level miku here though, highly recommended in any case.

I just came back to Vocaloids after a number of years, is it me or do the current iterations sound way worse than older school voicebanks? MikuV2 songs sound far less robotic and jarring than most of the current stuff even from the most competent producers. What the fuck happened.

I'm not really sure how to put it into words, but even on sustained notes or the softer section of the verse in Vampire, the voice sounds choked off. Maybe it's a bad choice of vibrato setting but it doesn't feel as smooth (or as cute).

This could come down to differences in mixing and tuning. Vibrato isn't added to V4X by default, that's on the producer. Big pitchbends are currently in fashion.
Imo the biggest difference in quality between voicebanks is in the consonants and pronunciation. V4X has the most crisp, breathy consonants.

Honestly, the first old one is pretty obvious more robotic to me because you can listen the concatenative aspect of the audio (one phoneme does not affect the adjacent ones as it should), but maybe the question here is that you consider the fact that it does post-process the voicebank more to connect the phonemes properly (and therefore it becomes more distant of the recorded "human" audio). The villain here might be the E.V.E.C. though, if so you might like Vocaloid 5 (which abandoned the technology that Crypton was developing).
