Reimu has actually been alive since the creation of the Hakurei Barrier. She's not really a shrine maiden, but rather the physical manifestation of the spirit of the barrier itself. As long as Gensokyo and the Barrier exist, Reimu will exist to protect it.

If Reimu died the first thing that would collapse is the danmaku system. War would break out and everyone would start using their true powers. It would eventually spread to our world.

It'd be humans with nukes and missiles vs. Youkai vs. Humans with magic powers.

If we're lucky we'd accept them and the world would become like Shuffle! but that's not likely to happen.

To the people arguing science vs magic, let's consult the leading expert on magic in Gensokyo.

The essence of magic is to determine the root cause of all things.
There's no distinction between science and magic.
The magic outside sure has advanced.
There are too few researchers in Gensokyo.
The power of magic is like those of science.
Meaning, it's at the forefront of the times!

Not to mention dozens of nuclear power, giant robots, kappa/tengu technology, reactors, printing presses, etc. The entire background premise for Soku is centered around steampunk/technology.

I'd say that a self-contained minature star used as a projectile may actually MORE damage than a single tactical fissionable nuclear weapon. A tac-nuke takes down a single tower block. A star would probably plow through an entire row of blocks before stopping.

...Actually, if a star hits something, it'll lose:
1: Heat energy
2: Hydrogen/helium that will inevitably 'splash' when it hits a solid.

When the star runs out of hydrogen, fusion slows down a lot, and the star's energy will drop off (without getting too technical about it).

Also, stars only hold together because they're so massive. A miniature star WOULD explode if it got too far from Utsuho.
