that's why it's best to start with jp-subbed anime but if you absolutely want to read something you're probably better off with a visual novel instead

Nah it definitely wasn't the rona. I've seen many people claim to learn Japanese to watch anime, and honestly, I've tried to do the same. I haven't LEARNED Japanese. The longest I've tried was probably a week, and I don't know more Japanese than your average anime fan.
However, I do think learning Japanese for anime is the ultimate weeb move. In an era where almost all anime is translated, it feels so extra. Sure, you could understand a few more jokes and references with a knowledge of Japanese, but learning Japanese is such a hard task that it doesn't seem worth it.

not super seriously its always on my cards and i go out of my way to get the right word audio but i dont fail a card if i get the pitch wrong i just listen to the word audio carefully a couple of times and move on
i did make a copy of a few thousand mature cards from my mining deck a few months ago just for testing pitch but i dont rep that deck much and i cant be assed to do it with core6k

do you actually record yourself pronouncing words and compare
thing with using a pitch deck is you need to make sure you really know the words so it doesnt fuck with your recognition intervals which is why core6k would be most ideal for me quite a few words are approaching a 1 year interval bet ive internalized embarrassingly wrong pitches for some of those words but its just so much work doing it all over again lol

i dont recommend using pitch audio because
a) who knows how accurate it is
b) who knows if its a good natural example of a natve
c) you dont know if you are saying it right unless you record yourself and get objective and accurate native feedback
d) you are only hearing a snippet of audio and not the flow of how it sounds in conversation

shadowing and output with natives is simply the way to go when you have slayed every beast except natural sounding intonation (which is a much better word than "pitch" when it comes to japanese)

ive listened to lots of english examples of words online that sound weird to me as a native and would make an esl sound dumb if thats all they had to shadow, but some are fine. its just hit or miss and depends on the region and stuff too so you could have a british cunt sayign BAAHTH and then a redneck saying a different word. talk about crippled

every card of mine has the context in which i encountered that new word this usually includes a clip of the context audio unless my input was a text only source like a book or a voiceless line from a vn etc so that counters d)

i fetch word audio from the official nhk pitch accent dictionary or forvo if nhk doesnt have an entry and put it on my cards so in both cases its 標準語 as bunko said basically vetted sources so that counters b)

i have a dedicated pitch accent dictionary and daijirin (j-j dictionary) which also has pitch accent markings loaded into yomichan so when i hover over a word i can confirm the two dictionaries agree on the accent then listen to the audio and make sure it has the right accent so that counters a) in fact this is how i figured just how terrible jpod101 quite early on
