Patchy is/was always a Magician, as was Alice. They've always been Youkai. There are magicians, and then there are Magicians. One is a being that uses magic, and one is a subrace of the Youkai that is 'focused' on the ability to use magic. One can be a magician without being a Magician, as Marisa is: a Human magician.
