Skill levels in Ranceverse have three levels.
They are set by birth, and you can't "train" to get higher.

For example
Sword Lv 0 - average person
Sword Lv 1 - Adept, professional level swordsman.
Sword Lv 2 - Powerful swordmaster, can use a unique and devastating special move.
Sword Lv 3 - Legendary swordmaster, more powerful than imaginable.

Rance is Lv2.
There hasn't been any character in Ranceverse with canon Lv3 swordskill yet. Not even the leader of the Eternal Heroes, British.

There are confirmed Lv3 magic users though.
Annis (from VI and Kichiku-oh), Hunty (from VI and Kichiku-oh), Ho-Laga (mage of Eternal Heroes), and Red Eye (the jeweled demon).

There has been times when certain rule breakers have been applied to raise skill level.
(such as items that boosts skill, or someone genetically or mechanically altering a person to have higher skill level)

The "Hero" system is really intersting.

One of the super gods, "The Planner" (the one that changed Chaos and Nikkou to their current state) made a fail-safe system.

Every era, there's a "hero" born. They lose their heroic power at age of 20.
The power of a "hero" increases the more humans die.
If the Demon Lord is so cruel, and decimated the human race, the hero would become more powerful than even the Demon Lord.

The problem is, The Planner didn't really put a limit to this system.
So if EVERY SINGLE LIVING BEING in the main world was to die, the hero becomes powerful enough to kill even the super gods themselves.

Not sure why Planner made the system like this, probably for fun.

Arios, the Adol-from-Ys-ripoff, was a former hero.
He recently lost his power, and became a normal human.

Rizna was kidnapped at age of 15, and kept captive in the Genbu Castle.
The villain who did this is none other than Aberuto, the final boss of VI.
Many different men came and decieved her.
The fourth man to arrive to the castle, Chidosese repatedly raped her until she bore his child.
Enraged, he punched her repatedly until the unborn died in a miscarriage.
Rizna lost her sanity due to this, and Chidosese left the castle disgusted.
Eventually Kagekatsu, an honorable samurai Putit Hani came along and sooth her pain and restored her sanity.


This all happen before Rance arrives to the scene.
Unfortunately you don't get to kill Chidosese, he already died outside the castle.

She's a character in 5D.

Waka was a princess who was captured by Madou (Genbu) and held in the Genbu Castle.
Madou stopped going to the castle (probably due to planning Xavier's return?), and Waka supposedly died.
But the soul of Waka was trapped in a painting, when Rance arrived to the castle in 5D.
She managed to come back to life by moving her soul from the painting to a doll.

There's a character who's been in the Rance series since the early years named Bard.
Bard is a handsome and capable adventurer, but he keeps getting the short end of the stick thanks to Rance. He's really lucky he's still alive, actually lol.

Anyways, Waka befriends Bard, who was also trapped in the Genbu Castle (at the end of 5D).

It looks like Madou got pissed that his girl had hots for Bard, and destroyed the doll, killing her. Bard, as usual, got away alive it seems.

The current "Hero" is a mystery.
Some are speculating Dark Rance, since he was born around the time Arios lost his powers... but he's a half-devil half-human, dunno if he applies.
He IS a son of a rulebreaker bug though.

Some others are wondering if Maha in Helman is.
Maha is the younger brother of Mineva.
He's pretty useless as a unit, but according to the Kichiku-oh manual, his level limit is 100. The same as Arios.
And he's a low teen, around the same age as Arios when he became the Hero.

Or it could be someone who we haven't seen yet.
Minerva is a super buffed chick who fought Rance in III, and in Kichiku-oh. Maha appeared in Kichiku-oh only. Minerva is most likely going to be one of the major antagonist in Rance 9... she owes Rance a payback, and she's considered one of the strongest human in all of ranceverse.

Fellis has been in Rance 2, 3, 4, 4.1, 4.2, 5D, and VI.
So Sengoku was the first Rance she hasn't been in since her first appearance.

She's a devil, so she can bypass the demon shield.
I suppose she was just too convinient to be serving the protagonist, and makes the demons less threatening.

But she's a regular cast, so it was surprising TADA would fate her to the tragic treatment of getting gang raped by devils, shitting devil children, and losing her sanity from it.
We kinda thought regulars were spared from such fate in a canon story. I swear, that man is a sadist.

Not only are they not human, they can't leave JAPAN.
They can only exist in JAPAN and nowhere else in the Ranceverse, because for them to survive they require the youki stemming from Orochi.

Holy shit, I did not realize papa Ghandi was such a beast (though Hunty is just ridiculous).
It's nice to see that Rance is not overpowered in teh setting , rather his actions and the circumstances help him do his Ridiculous Deeds most of the time.
