I haven't watched the taiwan special yet only the first season (2012). In the last episode he collapses and enters a coma because of the aneurysm. Then 10 minutes later he busts through the window to save the day and it's never mentioned how he's ok now and they don't talk about if he's still sick or not.

Japanese cinema at the 1950 and 1960 had a "star system", right? I keep seeing the same cast over and over again, the same pretty young faces.
I'm not complaining, I like those movies and cast. My only gripe is that there's a HUGE amount of movies from that period that are not available here, so many movies I wanted to watch but can't.

I found this channel for old and restored korean movies and I was thinking if there is a similar channel but for japanese movies. A "serious" channel, with a big collection and subtitles and a site with details about the movie.

Third act disappointed me a bit, but this happened because I really liked this movie and the first two acts had some really great scenes!

First episode is too soon to say anything, only that Tomoko Yamaguchi aged very well. Is she still holding up or she already hit the ceiling by now?

Genkai Shuraku Kabushiki Kaisha was excellent. Matsuoka Mayu was super crazy cute the whole show and the story was great. 5 episodes though? I really wish it was much longer.
Any other small town slice of life shows that can redeem my faith in humanity?

In literally every Japanese show and movie set in the modern era that I've seen, there's some side or major plot involving the yakuza in some way, though sometimes it's just very yakuza-like debt collectors.
Is this just a very convenient way to create conflict quickly or are the yakuza actually that pervasive in Japanese society/culture?

I'm pretty sure we're missing out on characterization with this adaptation. Especially with the character Yuki, I think is her name. She's supposed to be their friend but we barely got to see any of her until this episode. I know that she's always around them but without any scenes it just feels weird to suddenly focus on her. The show's still good regardless but I just had to point it out.
Also, did Hori and Miyamura fugg at the end?

I watched it ages ago but I remember that it's generic as fuck. It's unlike the novel/anime where it's multiple spies doing their own thing and reporting to their boss. It's more like a B-grade James Bond with a Johnny idol as the MC and Fukada Kyoko as the love interest.

This was a good episode.
It was interesting to see all the conflict pile up over the course of the episode. A lesser show would come off as really thick melodrama but this was written so well that you don't notice how bad things were getting. The acting was so good too, despite seeing most of these actors everywhere on tv, I completely forget while watching the show and just think of them as the characters themselves.

Kusakari Masao was really great in that. really sells his role and grounds the show. i'm looking forward to watching Operation Z at some point.

if you like the protagonist in Sanada Maru then i recommend Tenjichin because it's protagonist is basically the exact same character with a different name. both shows are very similar all around, just different historical perspectives.

Actually, this isn't a problem anon.
When I used this trick to save my ratio I got the most popular torrent, a kdrama, and downloaded only one episode. That was enough to have something to seed.

Don't you know what ratio is?
Some peole have problems with ration of closed trackers because they usually download "unpopular" things that's hard to seed back. For example, I watch a lot of old japanese movies and they always have very few seeders and total downloads. My ration only survives because by keeping the torrent active I get bonus points that after I few months I can exchange for upload. (this or I hunt for things that aren't there yet for a few GB of upload)

Watched "Where Spring Comes Late" (Kazoku 1970) and was surprised to see "Akira Miyazaki" as the writer appear during the opening credits. It's the same writer of some anime from the World Masterpiece Theater.
Unnecessary to say that I liked this movie.

Before I forget, anything to say about Shinji Aoyama's Eureka? It's a three and a half hours movie and it appears to be very slow. Hope it's not a pretentious slog.

I've noticed in most the movies and shows I've seen, there is very little if any reference to religion or any religious figures. Maybe a festival at a temple, if anything. Maybe some talk of ghosts if that counts. Is this an accurate observation of modern Japanese culture, non-religious?
