Downloading Evangelion by accident on emule while trying to download a western movie.
It was often the case that people shared something completely different like porn and you had to download the file you wanted multiples times until you got the real one and not a prank.
Being in an extremely toxic narcissistic family that was my first contact with something that looked like human warmth and emotion, and I related to Shinji a bit too...
Anime was my unique hope in this world and the only thing which made me continue to live for almost 2 decades now.
Then I discovered vtubers and finally understood that I was replacing social interactions with a simulation through anime, but it was great to discover all the possibilities of human life even through this warped way.

I'm no /pol/ack either, but I was comparing the zealotism and need to prolysthetize of Abrahamic religions (Christianity and Islam especially) to the spread of Communism. Both destroy host culture (dark ages, burning times, ISIS, cultural revolution in China, etc...), both have prophets (Jesus, Muhammad, Lenin, Stalin, Mao), both demand blind obediance/subserviance, etc...

And both have been a threat to Japan before, so this is relevant to Japanese culture.

The first piece of media of significant power level I consumed was Mega Man Battle Network. It was a card battle RPG for the GBA. It was basically your typical retarded battle shonen manga in JRPG form, and it had a retarded battle shonen manga tie-in, which I read religiously.

I grew up abroad in a country where the New Japanophilia never really took hold, so I missed DBZ, Sailor Moon, and the golden age of Toonami. But then I moved back to the States and was exposed to this one little series right at the time in my life when I was most impressionable and receptive to it, before I even knew the words "anime" or "manga".

Once I grew out of that series I actually went through an anti-weeb phase, effectively becoming tsundere for anime and otaku media in general. Now I've warmed back up to it and am obsessing over an aging doujin shooter series with heavy roots in Japanese folklore and am teaching myself Japanese because my appetite for obscure manga has exceeded my tolerance for bad translations.
