Sup /jp/

I'm leaving for Japan in about a week, and need some help deciding what to bring my host family as gifts.
I'm from Canada, so I bought some candy for the two kids (both boys) and plan on getting some maple syrup and a bottle of wine or something for mom and dad.
Is that sufficient? I'm staying for a year, so should I stock up a little more?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Maybe some touristy t-shirts and the like would be appropriate. Coffee mugs w/maple leaf, etc. A year is quite a while.

I'm weary of buying clothes since they probably won't be worn often, but the coffee mugs are probably a good idea.
To be honest, I don't want to spend a whole lot either. I'm guessing I'll have to buy them something every time I go anywhere outside of Tokyo anyway..

Like the mugs, I think you should have at least one thing for each of them that isn't consumable. Are there any Canadian children's toys along the line of ball-in-a-cup?

they're more like teenagers, so I was a bit stumped as what to buy for them..

A music CD, maybe? Doesn't necessarily have to be Canadian music, maybe just something good you'd think they wouldn't have heard of in Japan.

I never would have thought to buy gifts for a hostfamily. You're a nice guy, op. The kind of guy who is destined to be friendzoned by women forever, because you missed your chance to experience anime high school were tsundere's and beautiful nerds fight over you.

You could get them some low-brow stuff. Get some smoked Salmon, If you can. Get them some decent English tea. Wait, I have an idea.

Take pictures of where you live. Around your area. Have them printed out, show your host family what life is like for a Canadian.

All Canadian's should ever give as a gift is bagged milk.

I'd probably recommend a package of Dare Maple Leaf Cookies. But in all seriousness, it may not be a good idea to bring food items with you in general. I'm betting there's tough restrictions against that sort of thing. Best to be safe than busted at the airport. Check to make certain.

Can't really give you much in the way of suggestions. Whatever you decide to bring, I guess it should be somewhat unique.

Hope you have a great time.
