Yes yes, before "Archer's an emofag . . ." and "I am bone, Rin."

This thread will most likely be a clusterfuck.

I'm interested in how they're going to weave all of UBW into 90 minutes (or whatever it was). I guess they could remove all the cooking scenes (and "Remember that fire" scenes), but if they did that, they might not have enough content to fill 90 minutes (kidding). I wonder if there will be any mana transfer? I guess it's not integral to the plot, but it would be cool. I'm going to baww if they have the scene where Ilya gets her heart ripped out through.

How about this for a tragic story line:

Shirou's dead. Sakura's gone Dark and badshit, and gunning for Rin while going NomNom on Saber. So, we've already gotten Dark Saber and Caster eaten.

So, Archer realizes to save the world he has to man up and tell Rin everything. He tells her who he is, his story, etc and then they go out and fight the other Servants. Because Shirou's dead, he and Rin grow closer and closer to each other and their sexually tense banter turns softer.

To keep Zouken from winning, Lancer goes to help Archer and Rin. So we've got angry banter between the two of them as they have to fight together. Plus, Lancer noticing their relationship and chuckling over it.

Well, in a bout with Dark Sakura and Dark Saber, Rin gets her mana drained. So we get mana transferring sex between the two of them with the Master giving to the Servant. They confess their feelings, but it's bittersweet because Archer knows it can't be anything.

They end up killing Dark Sebia, with Lancer dying awesomely, Sakura has to die. Then they have to go take down Gilgamesh and Kotomine. Rin has an awesome mage, Black Key, Gem slinging, Kung-fu fight with Kotomine while Archer and Gil fight.

Archer BARELY manages to take down Gil because of Gil's ego and Rin kills Kotomine in rage after he tells her he killed her father.

However, by this time the Grail is already looking like Tetsudo and Archer traces Excalibur to destroy it, draining the rest of his mana.

He looks at Rin as he starts to fade and gives her his SMILE and confesses that he loves her and she's strong to move on. Then he's gone.

I don't know what Nasu was on, but the mythology of the Hellenes tells us that Medea was born of man, and while she may have divine bloodlines thanks to her father's lineage, she certainly isn't mentioned to be an elf.

Basically, it's like this.

You're better off viewing FSN as a shounen/harem comedy with some Magical Girl elements. In this case, the characters happen to share names with people from mythology. Aside from that, they're completely different.

The valorous ARTHUR PENDRAGON, son of Uther, king of the Britons is a moe little blonde girl.

The fearsome snake-haired, loud roaring monster MEDUSA is a moe glasses-wearing oneechan.

The terrifying berserker Cuchulainn is a FAAAAABULOUS bodysuit-wearing Irishman who likes to fish.

If I took all of them as actually being the figures from history, I'd be frothing at the mouth with bestial rage.

And also, the scenario you describes is but the bare minimum of Arthurian legend. Those are very basic, simple things that everyone knows, but what of the more intricate details that are all destroyed...because Nasu HAD to make Arthur a woman.

Does Nasu give you blowjobs to defend his work on the Inter-net? His shit is whack.

He ignores the finer points of the mythology surrounding the characters, and in doing so he removes their spirit.

When I read about King Arthur Pendragon, I want to read about the Arthur described to me in the old tales, not some blonde-haired little girl.

Perhaps you may be too much of a weeaboo to see a flaw in Nasu's work, but I reject his half-assed, sloppy handling of myth.

He didn't pay it much heed cause he does not implement it or examine it itself. It serves as a backstory.
Most of the character understanding is done within the game's story, and it's obviously NOT the same character from the legend. He does not try to portray the mythos well or expand, only use the basis he wants for teh story.
Bad expectations are bad.
And the Arthur mythos is sword fanwankery of one of the more retarded codes and ideals in legends and history in my humble opinion, so it's for the better he did not try to portray the common mythos normally.

Nasu as a writer has a million problems, the shit you complain about manages to not touch any of the actual issues.
It's pretty damn clear he never wanted to incorporate each legend 100% accurately (whether he could do it or not), which is impossible since most have at least 2 versions. He has his own setting and cosmology, so he borrows known concepts for dramatic mostly effect and adapts them.
The events are the same, characters, reasoning and mechanics are not.
It's his own version of the legend, bad or not, which fits his own setting. He has no obligation to write them the way you see fit or accurate, and doing so does not make it instantly bad.
And in the end, the legends are not the focus, the resulting character who interact in the modern setting are.
Since he does not event really focus on them and are mostly 4-5 pages of digest, saying that this basic amount of info used to establish the character does not capture the whole writings of Old is redundant and retarded.

All right, it starts out with saying how his father ditched the family and he had a fucked up poor life with his mom. He was bullied by every one at the school he went too. Baseball was the ONLY thing he ever found interesting to do. One day Kirisu (The Slugger of SVS) found him and asked if he wanted a batter. Igurumi? Got beat up by his teammates who were envious of his skill. They broke his elbow ending his career forever. But different from Kirisu who just gave up baseball, Igurumi didn’t and kept on trying to throw the ball. Few month later, Igurumi was banned from school after picking a fight with the teammate in the middle of a class. And started living like a homeless man INSANE. In his last pitches of SVS, we find out why Igurumi Kazumi was so obsessed with playing baseball. Because he liked baseball? no. Because that was the only thing he was good at? no. Because of his friend Kirisu? no. Because his mother was so proud to see him succeed in baseball. But that ended when his teammates went to tell his mom that her son won’t be able to pitch anymore. Igurumi hid about his elbow in front of his mom and practiced hoping that it will somehow magically get better. The teammates thought that wasn’t funny, and went to his house to reveal that to his mom. His mom hanged herself after hearing it.

First off, don't take me so literally. 'Everyone under the sun' just means /jp/, and we're not even under the sun. We are in our abodes.

>His backstories in character status are mostly digests of the legends and largely accurate (If you Read Arthur instead of Arturia, same thing), and parts of their personality, given abilities of the setting etc allude to them, which is a nice touch.

The characters' backstories are distilled to their purest essence, leaving none of their original flavours. My major problem with Nasu in this case is that he only payed heed to the most general portions of the myth.

Oh, arthur pulled a sword out of a stone, wow, that's so accurate and legible and detailed. And he has a son named Mordred, wow, Nasu is a GENIUS.

By this logic, you could say that Disney's cartoon movie 'The Sword In The Stone' is an accurate and faithful retelling of the legend. I am not pleased by this.

If it pleases you, then the more power to you. You can actually read FSN without the sense of cognitive dissonance that I get.

It's not that he fails to portray the legends, it's that he doesn't want to.
He obviously want you to judge the characters by what happens in the story, not my whichever myth told by any random team of people has.
The summaries help you to realize that these heroes are very distant than normal people and their presence here is not natural.

From basic events, he builds his original setting and character interpretation. You are not supposed to build up an impression from the legends.
The fact that you want to is irrelevant and stupid in this case.

You don't need to onlly understand the author's words to enjoy his work, you need to build the proper disposition/expectations the setting provides.
If after the first few hours, you actually expected accurate portrayal and retelling of the characters and judged the content, then you cannot distinguish a fantasy novel from a mythos analysis in terms of literacy and cultural legacy.

Which is precisely what I have said. Instead of expecting accuracy, I have instead paid attention to the story, and discounted the characters' mythological leanings as being merely references, and they themselves as being separate from the characters WE know.
