My tastes are pretty basic, but I have a few favorites like Grand Guignol, Soga no Tojiko Will Not Talk, and Haiiro no Zanshou Jou, but VINTAGE is probably my top favorite. I love stories with Sakuya where she ages and Remilia must cope with that fact.
Also the Hatate centric doujins by ChemJanky are a guilty pleasure just because of how weird it is, it feels like a vent work with Touhou characters instead.

Forgotten the name but there's one where it appears to be the first time Reimu and Marisa meet but it turns out Marisa suffered a massive brain injury from Cirno fucking up her memory, so Reimu just decides to make the best of it and treat it as such
I don't remember the artist but there's the comic where Marisa and Nitori discover weed that I liked
That one Yuuka anthology, specifically the story done by the "Do Electric Machines Dream of Miracle Girls" artist actually im a sucker for any good yuuka story especially ones where she's fighting like that one in Grand Guignol
Warugaki did a small series of comics where Koishi was trolling a character from the manga Kaiji that was fun to read
Those Suwakoto books are fun too

I don't remember the name, i don't even remember most of the things that happened in it anymore, but there was this Marisa doujinshi that i really like, she was just roaming gensokyo and think about deaths and try to cope with it (?) the art was really good and the story itself was subtle, but nice.
i had it bookmarked but i can't find it somehow.

I much prefer non-H doujinshi and I don't really like reading about OC characters or men. Sometimes I like the bittersweet ones where the immortal or ageless characters must deal with the mortality of their friends, but still have a happy tone to them.

Agreed, I miss Karaagetarou a lot. At Chirei is an absolute masterwork. Kene-Mokou and the Students, Read Me a Story Miss Patchy, and Keine Box are all excellent too.

I would say so even if it's basically a motion comic. Compared to other stuff (KKHTA) they're actually pretty good although Suikakasen suffers from being made before Horned Hermit finished and we got Kasen's proper story so it really digs into the fanon.

I don't like yuri but this manga is the exception to the rule. It is just that good. Also, the same author made a one shot featuring a GIANT Meiling.

As for my recommendation: "The Gensokyo of Humans" by Ashiyama Yoshinori. Featuring Akyuu, Kosuzu, Reimu and Marisa as the main chars and taking place in the human village and the Akyuu household.
Great world building for the human village.

A crossover between Kingdom Hearts and Touhou. Pretty much a retelling of KH1 but there are 2hus in it. Actually really well written. PC-98hu’s are also included.

Grand Order of the Eastern Wonderland
Another Fate crossover. This time its FGO x Touhou. Its good but admittedly could be written a little better.

I really don't read non-h doujinshi as much as I should, even though I always enjoy it, I rarely remember to, and don't know or follow many mangaka who do it other than some of the more obvious ones. Not that I really read Touhou h doujinshi either, when it comes to erotic things I care mostly about content and artsyle, and generally prefer original books, though sometimes my taste does overlap with derivative works though, incuding Touhou, and there are some people who do Touhou h doujinshi who I like, but, anyway, that's a discussion for another time and place. While there are some here I've read before, reading a number of the suggestions here, I've really enjoyed them, and will keep reading other suggestions that I didn't get to yet. I guess it's kinda silly and pointless, but I wanted to thank everyone for their nice reccomendations. The guy is known for his depressing stuff and a philosophical insight to a suicidal Marisa and how her friends react to it creates a great story and a very controversial ending. Some people celebrate it and others - like myself - strongly oppose what happens in the end. The doujin made me think and made me argue. I loved it.

That was pretty depressing. Not to such an extreme degree maybe, but I found Marisa's way of thinking about herself and others to be rather relatable... As for the ending, I would agree with you that I strongly oppose what happened, but I'm also not sure a happy ending where Marisa recovers normally would fit the tone, and that, while I dislike it, Reimu having to live with the guilt of her choice may fit better. I was confused as to why Yukari decided to help Reimu despite her obvious disgust towards what Reimu wanted to do, so that part felt a bit odd. I felt it was made even more sad by the fact that Marisa seemed to get a hold of herself in her last moments there, but had her memories erased anyways, although it was hard to tell if Reimu intentionally went though with it, or had no choice at that point. Thank you for sharing anon, I liked it a lot, and like you said, it made me think.

Doujin (read as 同人) are self published works mainly done with hobbyist intentions
I gave you the kanji because it's easier to get if you break it down, don't worry if you don't know japanese
同, the first kanji, is the kanji that represents "sameness" and meanings along those lines
人, the second kanji, is the kanji that represents "person", "people" and meanings along those lines
so you get a meaning of "people who share the same interests"

Doujinshi (read as 同人誌) are self published writings
誌, the third kanji, being the term for "magazine", something along the lines of being printed, the term can be used as well for self published novels, it doesn't have to be comics

so basically:
-Doujin is the umbrella term that encompasses all it's derivatives:
Doujin soft for self published games
Doujin ongaku for self published songs
*Doujinshi for self published magazines
etc

Comic LO isn't doujin because it's an aggregate of professionally created works, being an anthology doesn't really have any effect on defining a piece of work as doujin.
Think as "Artist is getting paid by a company that's going to publish their work" vs "Artist drew a comic on his free time and sent it to the printers themselves to sell at a convention"
Those aren't defined like that of course but it should give you an idea on how to approach the term

I've seen fanzines on places like itch.io and people organize them via Twitter and Discord, but they're less than like a doujin and more like a magazine showcasing artwork. Sometimes you do see doujins but not as often as Japanese ones. They get uploaded to the usual sites all the same though.
Indie as a term has been taken over by smaller companies anyway.

I've known a few of those, a Goemon one and a Devilman one. The Goemon was mainly by Americans but the Devilman one was much more organized online and only really released among the people that shared art, and this was years before Crybaby so it was more niche. I think there's even a name for those, amateur press associations/APA, some have been going for decades. I would've join if I knew how to draw.
I've used fanzine for almost anything independently published, I guess the proper term would be small press. America does have a history of self-published comics, all the Robert Crumb kind of stuff was basically that, and he used to sell his own comics with his brother as a teenager. These really kicked off in the 70's and 80's with stuff like Cerebus, Usagi Yojimbo, and especially TMNT, everyone wanted to join in and began doing their own thing. I guess what doomed it was that didn't have their own comiket, they would sell their own stuff to comic book shops, they were pretty low quality and amateurish, no one really bought them anymore, and they just crashed. The remaining legacy are mainly the aforementioned titles, Dark Horse which mainly just releases licensed stuff and translated manga now, and furries. Especially furries. Basically furries.

Huh. Didn't know at least three other volumes of the Yotsuba Suwako doujin was translated on the Booru. Hopefully someone hard translates them since while I don't mind reading it on there it sucks that they're not in one pool, also this page needs a rescan.
