I'm thinking of getting into making these, but I'm terrible at wig working. Sculpting and painting I can handle, it's the hair that I wouldn't get.

Also, I've noticed a few different kinds of kigs. Which do you think are better, kigs that slip on like a helmet, or kigs that open to allow the wearer's head in, then close around them?

The reason I ask is because they both have their benefits and drawbacks. For example, the slip on style would obviously be easier to put on and take off, and is overall sturdier in construction, but the opening needs to be much wider to accommodate the head. This opening is often angled to the back of the mask, then hidden by the hair. This can sometimes be a hindrance, and if visible, can kinda kill the illusion. Plus I've noticed slip on kigs can sometimes be a little big. This could end up throwing off your proportions and make you look like you have a huge head if it's really noticeable

On the other hand though, a two piece mask that closes by a hinge and clasp of some sort can yield a closer fit, and more closely resemble the natural size and shape of the wearer's head. Perhaps not a good idea if the wearer has a large neck, though. They made need that bigger kig to balance it out. Anyway, the closing kig would be a little more complex, more things to worry about, like hair fibers catching in the hinge or whatever device, but I think it would create a better all-around mask, and that could let you get more creative, say, with the kig's hair for example.

I'm just throwing around ideas. if there were an easier, more streamlined way to make these masks, presumably they could be made more available for less money, without sacrificing much in the way of quality. What makes that difficult, though, is the inherent uniqueness of kigurumi masks. They're all almost always hand made and unique, a reflection of it's wearer's tastes. That's not the sort of thing you can stamp of a press. Maybe some popular characters could be made in multiples, but that's entirely the point, is it?

Well, I am thinking that if someone can make it so, we can host an update site thing like catchup.xii.jp

using a free website provider, we can launch it and yeah, I am sure even the Japs will think highly of the western community's contribution.

That is to say, I don't know how to code a site and all that to net the updates on every blog.

(Blogspot has this thing called Blogroll, which nets updates from individual blogs of note and put snips of it on the sidebar.)

Assuming we can somehow copy that function and make it so that this back to basic site with only these updates we can pretty much administer it together.

I think it should not be bandwidth heavy, so it should not cost much. (Freewebs for example)
