Try and make an effort to be Japanese in Japan, and you shouldn't come across hardly any racism. There will always be some, reguardless of where you go, no matter what, so just deal with it. But if you make an honest effort, people will know. Unfortunately, reguardless of how much effort you put in, you'll always be a gaijin. This isn't necessarily bad, as one could use this to your advantage sometimes, but if you're looking for the true Japanization, you'll only achieve so with friends, and probably not the whole country.

The hardest part is making sounds that are not in your native language.
