I'm 21 years old. And I just failed my first driving Road Test.

I failed my first time, too. As it turns out, they can fail you for jumping curbs and making illegal turns.

You're probably not as shit tier at driving as I was three years ago, OP. It's cool.

I failed mine three times. Stupid reasons too. "You didn't turn off the turn signal fast enough after switching lanes" and stuff like that. I didn't pass mine until I was 18, when I needed it for a job interview that very same day.

Got my license when I was 18. I got a car too (it's a relic from my youth). But I rarely use that thing.

I love driving though. If only I had somewhere to go.

>> No.3185546

I failed my first one because the tester was a bitch. She made me drive for around 30-45 minutes until she found something she could mark down for. Apparently taking a corner a little fast is exactly the same as "losing control of the vehicle."

I came back a week later and passed with a different tester, only took about 5 minutes.

>> No.3185571

Did mine when I was 17. Passed my theory test first time and after 3 1 hour lessons I did my driving test and passed with 3 minors out of a possible 15. Had my car since then even if I use it maybe once a month, it's useful for driving down to the shops rather than spending 5 minutes of walking.

>> No.3185580

>>3185546

Interesting. A test over here in Northern Ireland only lasts 15 minutes. Having you drive around for that long just to mark you down is pretty bullshit.

I had my license at 16 and my own truck. Hurr. Not that I use it, but still, it isn't exactly hard to pass the tests unless you're a complete asshat who has no idea how to drive.

You can legally drive on private property without a license, or on public streets with a learners permit if you don't have an actual license. You also have the option of taking driving lessons (which you have to do if you're under 18 and want your license anyway) which would be driving around the actual city without a license as well.

As another note worth mentioning - if you get a license before 21 it's technically not a full license - basically an upgraded version of a learners permit. So you do actually get a shit ton of experience driving without an actual license.

You can also use open empty parking lots or other big areas like that, the police never give a shit if you just explain (if they even come at all).

So there's plenty of ways to practice. This all only applies to the US obviously, I dont know how shit works elsewhere. ಠ_ಠ

In Northern Ireland you aren't permitted to be on a public road without a provisional license and a parent or guardian present with you. You aren't allowed on a motorway at all. Then after you pass your test you are given R plates since you're classed as a restricted driver where you are allowed on all roads but at a maximum speed limit of 45. After a year of R plates you're then classed as a fully licensed driver.

>> No.3185797

I've got a driving licence and last time I've even touched a steering wheel was 10 months ago.
I find public transport much better, but for some reason people expect you to have one, even for some fucking job interwiev.

This is more relevant to your state than the US as a whole, since all the states have different laws.

>You also have the option of taking driving lessons (which you have to do if you're under 18 and want your license anyway)
>As another note worth mentioning - if you get a license before 21 it's technically not a full license - basically an upgraded version of a learners permit. So you do actually get a shit ton of experience driving without an actual license.

Just as an example, Florida only requires minors to have had their learner's permit for a year and a form signed by a parent/guardian confirming that you've driven at least 50 hours, 10 of which are night hours. This is aside from passing the written and road tests. After that, the full license comes with different curfew restrictions on driving, depending on your age. However, at 18, all the curfews are removed. The only difference I can think of at 21 is that it expires, forcing you to get a new one which denotes that you can buy booze.

>> No.3185842

>>3185718
I'm pretty sure that you can only drive with a permit if you're in the car with somebody who has a license. Or is that just a PA thing?

Unfortunately whilst the public transport here is decent with busses running every few hours they really aren't all that ideal considering the amount of school kids that get on and start shouting and such. It's a lot more comfortable and faster just to drive to a location and if your car is good on petrol then it's cheaper too. I know it was certainly handy to have my car when I went to college but since then my car has been sitting outside barely touched since I'm a NEET.

Yeah, I think that's the only thing that's different from 18 to 21 here too, that annoying ass bar saying you aren't 21 yet. I don't drink so I don't mind it, but it looks stupid. ಠ_ಠ

Either way my main point was just that getting experience isn't that difficult, nor is getting a license in general. ಠ3ಠ

>>3185883
In a big city like Los Angeles you end up having to drive more often than you would in a place where things are further away - simply because well...for one, our public transportation doesn't work, and two, things that are 'close' are only close from a bird's eye perspective. There's so much clutter that even driving it takes longer than it should to get somewhere nearby, let alone walking.

So really you're probably better off. Besides, living here is shit.
