Oh god, this is a lot better than I thought it would be.
No meta gaming stat boost calculations. Everything done out flat and right. Bonuses are properly exponential and apply evenly regardless of when you put them.
Limited battles per character, but you get almost the entire cast from touhou series.
Sakuya has za warudo.
Meiling is a fine brick wall
Cirno is the strongest facing bosses.
Cheeeeeeeeeeen Cheeeeeeeeen.

Gameplay is pretty interesting when against bosses. You switch out characters and keep trying to pile on effect while trying to keep Marisa and Patchy from being oneshot.

You'll have to use skills and swap out characters so they recover SP.
Reimu's defense and healing are useless. They cost a lot of SP and you won't use them at all.
It's always better to just improve the highest stat that a character has when they level up since it's most likely they'll rely on it.
HP recovers after a battle so no need for a lot of other hassles.
Remilia and Sakuya, after a few levels with boosting attack their skills are physical attacks are very impressive.

Even if you can't read Japanese. Using the skills are getting a feel of how the game runs is pretty easy.

Concentrate recovers SP at a rate of your SP recovery rate percentage.

Interestingly enough it recovers in battle when they are not in the party at a rate that looks like one concentrate per their regular recast of concentrate as if they were in the party. So, Patchy recovers pretty damn slow, while you could swap out Chen for two or three turns and see her with full SP again. HP may also apply, but not certain.

Ok. I just leveled up Sakuya. Why is it necessary to do it manually instead of the standard 'You have 1000 exp! You are now level n!' in most other RPGs? Unlike the skillpoints it doesn't seem to be a single pool for every character. Is leveling up not always good, or what?

You'd be surprised how many people enjoy not leveling up just for the extra challenge. It's possible to beat the game at level 1 if you just only put points in the bonus stats and carefully plan and level up stuff.

Checked the wiki out already, and they've already confirmed that the bonuses and level increases stay at a constant regardless of which way you put them in.

You'll have the same str with level 30 and level 30 str bonus regardless of the order you went to reach them.

>> No.3186812

>>3186638
Yeah, I'm familiar with low-level challenges. Although in all of the ones I've heard of, part of the difficulty is that you can't kill anything. leveling up only outside of the rift I can understand, but not making it automatic just seems silly to me.

And I died to Hong Meiling. Wee.

No, he means there's no advantage to leveling up later like in some games. If you raise Atk using skill points and goto character level 2, it's the same as if you did it the other way around. Sometimes stat gain on character level up is dependent upon other stats.

Later on when she has 222+sp, za warudo -> luna dial is an amazingly effective boss opener since it keeps her at +100spd all the time which means she will regen like mad which means all your chars get and stay faster. I guess even early game you can start off a boss battle with za warudo, switch out for a little while and bring her back in when she has enough for luna dial.

Do note, that the game (when played blind) is a lot nicer to you than eo games, at least early on. After wiping once on 1F to china, I didn't wipe again til 7F boss (ignoring 2 certain rape bosses, you will know if you meet them). The floors are also larger than eo floors, so even though the game (non-expansion) only has 20F, it will take a while.

>>3187218
Yes they are, but you don't meet many bosses vulnerable to paral. But there are lots vulnerable to stat down, and -spd is critical against them. Your buffs are godly too, so the mana khemia-esque switching madness strat works very well.

The game didn't feel particularly grindy to me. I just got 100% map completion on every floor and that was enough to take out the bosses in one try up til 7. 7 is an asshole of a floor though so I spent less time there then you're "supposed to," so was underleveled for the boss. Not that I grinded much to beat it anyway, just changed strats, but I did wipe 4-5 times.

The maps definitely are larger though, but remember this isn't EO, there are only 20F.

I don't find TP that bad, it's good to return to town every once in a while anyway to levelup and junk. Also losing 75% of a map because you were too curious and ran face first into a a foe sucks. Also for probably the first 13 or so floors, you can generally make pretty much all battles only use up 1TP per char with proper application of high speed MT nuking. Then switch chars around to recover sp and nuke some more until TP is out then back to town.

>>3192683
Did you like the meat grinder that was Yugi? Your chars aren't even meat shields, just speed bumps.

>>3193981
Yeah pretty much. She's not meant as a tank (evade type), she's there to switch in, self buff, spam the fuck out of her extremely low recovery move, then switch out. That or be faster than certain annoying fast enemies and kill them first for random battles. She can survive a hit or two later on at higher levels, but then so can everyone.

Oh random note, evade is shit, don't bother leveling it. On the player side it only works against normal attacks not skills, thus completely worthless (the maker of the game says it's a dead stat). Of course the enemies will be happy to dodge your master spark.

>>3194412
You don't know brutal til you get to 14F+, that's when the whole "kill all enemies before they can move" strat stops working. It works quite well up til then though with proper use of Marisa/Chen/Aya/etc.
