Is it odd that I found the whole steam punk feel at the opening of TH12.3 more exciting then the new characters?

I mean, since TH10 we've known that the Kappa and Tengu are interested in technology and have been sort of imitating modern humans, but the idea that they are living on the mountain in a kind of steam/nuclear powered city by rivers and waterfalls adds a whole dimension of awesome for me.

A world with nuclear fusion + magic means WIN

You do realise that millions of Tengu and Kappa are toiling in industrial slavery due to capitalism?

>> No.3166544

It's a shame that we only get yearly updates to the canon, it's become pretty interesting lately. Maybe Oriental Sacred Place will hit on some of the new stuff. Orrrr maybe it will keep stroking the EoSD -> PoFV dick forever.

Maybe if ZUN made the conversations easy to follows I'd care, but they are so stupid.
Pic relateds.

The theme is awesome. I think this is the first time I can say I am entertained by a game's main menu and character select screen. We still never got to see any giant mecha though.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed with that too, but it does have a almost Howl's Moving Castle kind of feel to it in the menu screen, like the heroes are chasing down some mechanical monstrosity built by kappa hands.

But more then anything I find myself trying to imagine what the Tengu/Kappa civilisation looks like at the moment, all living around that mountain and probably taking not to pollute the water/air because lets face it, both are kind of key to both races.

Comparatively UFO doesn't encourage my imagination as much, when playing the full version for the first time I just look forward to all the new characters and their themes to see what crazy shit has been added this time. There was a bit of wonder as to exactly what the plot was, but due to >>3166553 I wasn't too worried about the specifics.

I don't know, I find the quirky conversations to be part of Touhou's charm. It's unconventional, even by Japan's standards. A lot of the time it seems more like ZUN is just having fun with it. Sanae's conversations in UFO make her out to be just as bad as Reimu at times.

The opening movie has a "giant mecha" of a sort, though you don't get to see any detail.

It has a short cut sequence at the opening.

Yep. Though the later games seem more coherent. SA had people having actual lucid conversations here and there, compared with IN where I think a good quarter of the dialog still totally baffles me. I wonder if it's just better translation quality.

I love the whole interface of 12.3.

>[Reimu] That way.
>[Yukari] This way.
>[Keine] ... If you're after the ones behind the abnormal moon, it's that way.
>[Reimu] Hah, I was right.
>[Yukari] Reimu, your finger is off from hers by 70 degrees.
>[Reimu] But you're off by 110-- Wow, you're sharp, figuring out our destination.
>[Yukari] I'd be more surprised if she didn't notice.

Oh wow, Reimu really is a greedy bitch and asshole.

That makes perfect sense. Keine asks where they're going, Yukari and Reimu point in different directions, Reimu says she's right because she was closer to where Keine pointed than Yukari, and then pointed out that Keine was pretty smart for figuring out where they were going, and Yukari counters that anyone could of gussed.
