Personally I liked Sia's route better than Kaede's or Asa's.

Nerine's and Primula's routes are connected storywise, and you can't do Primula's route until you've finished Nerine's.

Likewise, Kaede's and Asa's routes are somewhat connected, though the game lets you do either of them first.

Sia's route isn't really connected or related to any of the others.

I have to admit the anime was pretty good, I converted a couple of my friends into low-level weeaboos because of it. (They copied my anime folder without my permission and came back later asking for anime similar to shuffle. Hmm maybe I can finally convert them to VNs now that this is released.)

The problem with the anime imho is that Kaede's backstory overshadowed Asa. I bet if they showed Kaede's story last the tons of people whining about it would stop.

Ok, I finished playing Kaede's route and I like it better than the anime. The anime kinda butchered Kaede's reasoning. Kaede is selfless. In the game because of her guilt of the past she doesn't want Rin to choose her, in fact she turned him down. She doesn't want Rin to love her and is ok with an unrequited love. Based on this there's 0% chance of her turning yandere. I agree with the VN Kaede's mindset too. She's too guilty of what happened in the past to think about monopolizing Rin. Anime Kaede kinda throws all of that away and turned her into an obsessive yandere which a 180 degree turn from her original personality. VN Kaede actions makes a whole lot of sense.
The anime did her backstory a whole lot better though. I also agree that it made Kaede more interesting as a character. We're talking generic deredere moeblob vs a freakin' yandere here, it's obvious which is more interesting.

Ehh... I don't really agree with that.

While she doesn't want him to love her due to the whole forgiveness thing, she is still obsessed with him and very much so wants to be with him. She comes out and says that she doesn't want Rin to be able to do the household chores by himself because she wants him to be dependent on her.

In light of this I'd say that the problem with her depiction in the anime isn't that they made her yandere. It's that they timed the yandere wrong, and, instead of freaking out when Rin started getting close to Asa, she should have freaked out when Rin moved out.

I hated the anime, I never found the comedy funny and their attempts at drama looked more like TEH DORAMA to me and source of unintentional comedy.

It was so bad at start I even wanted Asa to win but then the whole stupidity at the end I then did not wanted Asa to win (or anyone for that matter).

Their forum has no sections last time I checked though maybe they hid it for unregistered people. They autoban people who go into that IRC room if other Anonymous can be trusted about things like this. As always, ANN shut down the thread once it was licensed. Translator vanishes after "trip to Japan" and then comes excuses of LOST TRANSLATIONS but what really takes the cake was a Japanese National requiring a Visa to return to Japan excuse.

What likely happened was simple, original translator tried but lost interest and quit, then come attention whores that keep it the "translation" alive for ego trip.

The reason /jp/ says they are trolls are the lame excuses and the fact they contacted anyone that announced they were going to translate the game so they would quit and so keeping the game untranslated until the commercial translation.

First she's selfless and she's completely devoted to Rin. She also values Rin higher than herself. If Rin chooses someone else she'd concede peacefully.
For her to turn yandere means that she put herself first before Rin, throwing away her guilt and makes her look like a psycho.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I agree with you about her peacefully conceding if Rin chose to love someone else. She has guilt issues that prevent her from accepting that she can / should be loved.

But her subservience towards Rin isn't entirely selfless. She's doing it in part because she wants Rin to be dependent on her. Rin reminisces on how Kaede burst into tears when he tried to help her with the household chores. If something were to threaten Rin's dependence on her, I can easily see her trying to take more extreme measures to prevent that from happening.

If she didn't have that guilt she'd sure she might become one. But her guilt of the past prevents her from doing destructive stuff in the present. I guess it really just becomes a contest of desire for Rin vs her past feelings of guilt.

I still see Kaede as unlikely to become a yandere. She's too rational to be one.

Actually, I'd say that her guilt is the main source of her potential yandere-ness.

If her sense of guilt can turn a simple desire to be helpful into purposefully manipulating Rin to make him dependent on her, then why can't that same sense of guilt cause her to take more extreme measures to ensure that her debt is paid?

I also can't really say that I see her being rational / intelligent as being a barrier to yandere-ness. If anything, I see it as making someone a more effective yandere, as she'd be less likely to do something dumb.
