Inspired by >>3143052 : post a picture and a short story to go with that picture.

The end of the world took only a few weeks.

Of course, it was never intended as such. The nanovirus was the final weapon in a war between two neighboring states. Which side released the plague... matters not at this point. It was supposed to destroy all those of the opposing faction, detecting its victims by genetic signature--but just as with natural viruses, man-made ones can have errors in replication as well.

The vast majority of the world was on neither side of the conflict, but that didn't matter to the virus, which had no heed for national boundaries.

The Youkai were not heartless; had they known, perhaps some would have used their powers to try to save some of humanity. But nobody in Gensokyo noticed.

The first to discover the truth was Yukari, two months after the end of the world. Initially she tried to revert the catastrophe, but even her powers were not great enough to change such a vast event. Annoyed and somewhat distraught, she kept her discovery a secret for some time, but others soon noticed the lack of outsiders showing up. Korindou grew empty of new merchandise. Three years later, Yukari made her announcement.

"The Hakurei Border is no more."

With no humans left outside the border, its purpose was gone. The Youkai no longer needed to shut themselves up in an admittently cramped Gensokyo; they could travel the globe and stake out their own territories without any risk. The world was a Youkai's world once again.

But before Yukari let the humans and Youkai leave to explore the newly unveiled outside world, she made one insistence:

"The spell card rules must never be broken, either by human or Youkai. We cannot let happen again what happened these past five thousand years--Youkai must never again be enemies of humanity as they were outside of Gensokyo."

And in the blink of an eye, Yukari was gone. But out of the gap she left through came an enormous number of metallic objects and pieces of paper. The paper had instructions...

"These are Global Positioning System devices scavenged from the remains of humanity outside Gensokyo. They only have a limited amount of energy left, so don't turn them on too often. In exactly one year, I will open gaps to the locations entered on each of these devices. Until then, feel free to travel anywhere--the world is yours."

Nice story but either
A: That one history changer would just change history

B: The youkai and what not would cease to exist outside of gensyoko because there was literally no one to believe in them

C: or the mooninites would have taken man's place.

>A: That one history changer would just change history

Keine's power isn't unlimited (inb4 POWERLEVELS).

>B: The youkai and what not would cease to exist outside of gensyoko because there was literally no one to believe in them

You have it backwards. The Youkai exist because people *don't* believe in them.

>C: or the mooninites would have taken man's place.

Mooninites consider Earth a prison.

So earth would be australia.

At least take into account that humans can build intelligent robots in that world.

I'm going to bump this because I like the idea of a daily story tradition, even if I dislike the execution.
Perhaps I could do something with this.

It takes a few months for power plants stop working even after humans are all gone. I saw it on a thing on TV about what earth would be like if all humans vanished suddenly.

I sure hope you mean Lunarians. I just had a mental image of the Watatsuki sisters giving the Touhous pixelated middle fingers.
