I tried tuning in to one of these vtuber streams the other day and it just sounded like kindergarten teacher talking to her students. The only entertaining thing about them were the hilariously pathetic donation messages from people who have probably never been in a fight.

But why do adults like this? Why don't these people have any self-respect?.

What happened to these people that makes them genuinely enjoy having an 3d model anime girl talk to them like they're a 6 year old learning about colors?.

I started watching them years ago because I found them more entertaining than Japanese TV when you're trying to learn the language, I saw it as an evolution of those old nicolive streams when people used to put a static anime avatar on the screen while they played video games.
I'd never give them money though. Alas, I am in my 30s and I've long since learned the lesson that buying women gifts won't magically make them like you. It's a lesson you'd learn anyway.

If you're trying to seek some sort of hidden truth by making your own thread instead of just asking in any of the vtuber threads, you'll find that there isn't really anything deeper. It's fun to watch the streams and it's chill/entertaining/has good vibes/etc. It fills a niche for a lotta people that you don't get in many streamers, and for vtubers you generally know that you're going to get something apolitical and drama-free.
It's definitely not for everyone, such as people who prefer to watch things that contain more drama.

Can you make them do something in the game they're playing via superchat or what? If not then I don't get why would you send money to them at all.

VTuber culture is so interesting to me, especially what Hololive did with it where they combined the idol fandom with streaming. From business point of view, using digital space is much cheaper than doing same thing in real life. Add to that 2D rigs that just need software that literary costs 15$ a month and you got a mix of deranged army of mouthbreathers who are ready to tear apart anyone, even the idols they so love, if they do a wrong move.
Idol culture is fucking cancerous but holy shit if its not profitable
