It depends what character you're using and what kind of spellcard it is. There are different strategies for each of the girls you choose.

The one you mentioned is pure bullshit, but the key to victory, like in most other spellcards, is to deal as much damage as possible before your enemy even begin her attack. When using Suika hit Raymond with 2C directly as soon as she declares the spellcard. That should eat up most of her hp. Rush towards her like a madman and hit her with all you've got to finish the job.
