31151338 No.31151338 [Reply] [Original]

Hello! It's that time again, the GTA server was originally planned to be hosted for Christmas but misfortune strikes again. I wish I had better news to share, my computer burned up for good - practically have to build a brand new one from scratch. And given the extremely unfortunate timing the parts may take some time to arrive sir to unreliable shipping. Unfortunately, it won't be able to be hosted for Christmas. I can't make any promises, but with any remote luck we'll be able to play for the New Year. I'm entirely without a computer right now, so sadly even for that we may not have any exciting developments, my hands are tied.

I truly apologize for this - I know some were looking forward to it. It's extremely short-notice, but if one of the anons who host other Touhou-themed games can throw something together for Christmas in the server's absence, you'd have my respect and gratitude. There's a lot of anons who have nothing to do on Christmas, so if something fun can be hosted for them, that'd be lovely.

Does that mean all the server files are gone?

Like Futo sets it on fire bad or electrical surge fried everything bad?
You can still salvage a HDD or SSD if you still have the components.
I'll keep my eye on the thread, but see if you can hunt down a backup or a link you posted with the last known files shared.

in any good condition, but given the short notice, I guess it won't be possible since it takes a fair bit of time.

One more thing.
Regarding HDD, do not do it yourself just anywhere you choose. The disc is very very sensitive to reading. If there's so much as a finger print on the disc, its all for naught.
I forget the process for solid state, but anyone tech literate can salvage their own equipment in some way, it's just that the requirements are strict. I.E. Anything working on the inside of an HDD outside of professional environments requires the cleanest room possible. Not a speck of dust to be found. Everything basically spotless.

I'm neurotic and keep 3 separate backups all of which were up to date. Other than the pain to my wallet, nothing was lost, not to worry. Couldn't come at a worse really though, shame since I did have something relatively cool in the works. Nevertheless, Merry Christmas! I hope you all stay well. I'm really sorry again, but hopefully someone can host something else in my place. I wasn't sure if making a thread was a good idea, but hopefully the heads-up is still enough time to organize something else.

I did actually have a dingy old laptop I kept around for times like these, but, funnily enough, that stopped holding a charge a few days ago too! I've had to phone-post like some kind of animal. I wouldn't be able to make it to anything myself, but I don't really mind; I feel far more guilty about the anons that were looking forward to playing something. A game of Terraria will be hosted tomorrow, in lieu of MTA, during the usual server time: 7PM EST.

Terraria is an adventure/building sandbox reminiscent of minecraft in 2D. We can make 2hus via a combination of equipments.

If you wish to join, please follow the instructions in the pastebin below:

https://pastebin.com/vhyQFxmE

Server details will be posted when the run starts.

It's possible to build toward the sky right? How far did you all go?

I think those floating islands were the highest point anyone built in the server, and even then it wasn't at the height where harpies would spawn. Most of us just built cozy houses and stuff at ground level.

Are you guys a tight nit group? Has anyone new ever been able to join you? Has anyone not that into Touhou ever join you?

>Has anyone new ever been able to join you?
I'm pretty sure you can drop by no matter who you are. This is more of a /jp/ project fueled by members of common interest.
These threads are comfy so even if you're new, you can join in on the fun. Just note that some characters like Sariel are old old characters outside of the main cast of someone like Reimu who is rather notorious.

These threads from my experience show up every once in a while, but surefire times are Christmas and Halloween.

>Are you guys a tight nit group?
Not sure what you mean by this, but everyone's well-acquainted with /jp/ culture, and taking it easy. It's about as tight as you might expect.

>Has anyone new ever been able to join you?
Of course. It's not like the server started out full from the beginning. People trickled in slowly over time.

>Has anyone not that into Touhou ever join you?
Who knows? But since the server is strictly a 2hu MTA server, the assumption is you're joining because you're at least slightly interested in 2hu.

People obviously recognize each other when some of the same faces tend to show up each game, that's unavoidable with a project like this. However, I don't feel this is inhibiting to any new anons who wish to join. As long as new players follow /jp/ customs and culture, they will be welcomed with open arms. The only gate-keeping that's done is the same as if you were to shitpost on /jp/ itself.

I don't remember the problem about syncing, but I thought everything turned out rather smoothly during our movie night.

Perhaps the issue has to do with it being ran in MTA?

I meant the issue about youtube and having to leave in order to reset whatever was happening.

Everything more or less went quite smoothly during the movie night. Or at least, if there was, I wasn't made aware of it. The only real issue we encountered was the movie we were watching was banned for most of Europe, but that's technically youtube working as intended. Just copyright bullshit.

The video paused for everyone when the I paued it. It skipped to a timestamp when I skipped. I suppose there was a bit when we were testing where, if I cleared the playlist, everyone currently in the room would just desync and continue watching the movie without any control until I asked them to refresh.

Marisa really overtook Reimu. She's not an underdog, but it's another instance of the second player being more popular.
