The first time I played Tsukihime, I did so with absolutely no knowledge of it before playing.

The first ending I got was Ciel True, exactly what I wanted as soon as I made Shiki meet her.

Ciel route was the best Near-side route and her True End is my second favorite ending losing only to Hisui True.

Arcueid's routes suffer from Another Poorly Written Good Idea.

I can see where Nasu wanted to go with Arc's route. I really can. I get it. I get the character he wanted her to be. I'm not a stuck up twit. I don't care if it's not entirely original. I can enjoy it.

But he bogged down Arc's route and character development in plot exposition. When describing the nasuverse, Nasu is EXTREMELY AND NEEDLESSLY VERBOSE, like he isn't satisfied that the audience understands what he's trying to communicate until well after he's drilled it in twenty times.

This completely drowned Arc's route so badly that I didn't even feel bad about the intended bittersweet ending. It also didn't help that I had already played F/SN and Fate was much better executed than Arc's Tsukihime route. And that Ciel's route has a silly alternate ending that has Arc staying around and trying to woo Shiki, even though her own endings have them splitting up forever! What the fuck!?

JUST LIKE HOW SABER LEAVES FOREVER IN HER ROUTE BUT STAYS AROUND IN TOHSAKA GOOD.

Incidentally, Rin AND Ciel were my favorite heroines in their respective VNs.

It's not Arc's fault, but her route and character development suck, even if we can see where it was SUPPOSED to go.

She got her life saved by Shiki, and what does she do? Does she cling to him like some sort of desperate, pathetic slut?

Hell no.

She just admires the virtues of the man who rescued her from afar, content with merely observing him. This carries on for years, as she slowly develops a true, pure love that refuses to fade with the passage of time. Just watching Shiki was enough for her, but then one day she actually gets to walk home with him.

The amount of happiness this brought her was impossible for her to hide, and she finally got to interact one-on-one with the man she had come to love. Things were progressing even better than she had ever dreamed; it was almost looking like she could show Shiki the pure, innocent love she had for him and maybe even be accepted!

But then, she got bitten and turned into a vampire. Naturally, when that is the case, it is well-nigh impossible to resist the inevitable bloodlust. Satsuki even has to cave in to it. But when Shiki was put in danger by it, she actually manages to control the insatiable desire, and hold on to her sanity for the very end. All so she could protect the one who protected her so long ago; all so she could tell him the feelings she had kept to herself for so long.

And what was her reward?

The man she loves ceases her existence.

Where the hell does Ciel hate come from? I played F/SN first and sure enough thought Sakura's route was drawn out and lame most of the timetimes without Kotomine on screen.

So when I went on to Tsukihime I was braced for Ciel's route, NEEDLESSLY. It was objectively better than Arc's, due to generally being more interesting(even if I like Arc better as a character).
