Because apparently, in Japan, high school students get tasered in the middle of class, run off to Macao to snort coke and have wild strangulation sex, and run around on drugs thinking they are a cat.

well, paranoia agent managed to slip in subtle social commentary, even though Japan doesn't exactly have a problem with street assaults with bats.
Also, large black wave devouring people because a puppy died But even still managed to get across the theme of the overstressed society coping with stress by becoming infatuated with cute and losing oneself in a fantasy world.
Symbolism, people, symbolism.
