3040216 No.3040216 [Reply] [Original]

So, I was looking through my VN collection and blasting some Megadeth when I came to a realization. Just like there were the big four of thrash metal, there are the big four of visual novels on /jp/: Type-Moon, 07th Expansion, Nitro+, and Key. Let's compare them to the bands.

Type-Moon is a lot like Slayer. While there are some slow parts and the work itself isn't all that great if you just looked at it, when you get to the good parts with action THINGS SPEED UP REALLY REALLY FAST AND SHIT KICKS ASS FUCK YEAR!

When it comes to 07th Expansion, they're a lot like Metallica back when they were good. You can expect skilled progression and twists when you least expect them. Their work is of a high standard and you'll be thinking about and discussing it days, weeks, and months after you give it a go through.

Nitro+ is one of those companies known for having, for the most part, high quality VNs that unfortunately have a tendency to slow down or become monotonous over time. Very reminiscent of Megadeth's track record.

Sometimes things become popular and you're not quite sure why. This is the case for the Anthrax-like Key. Both are shit that should've died out a long time ago.

What are your thoughts on this /jp/?

>> No.3040229

I never thought it'd be possible to troll /mu/ and /jp/ at the same time.

Bravo.

Megadeth is too popular to be Nitroplus.

Even if you are a troll, i have to agree with you on most parts. Expect Key, it is really better than most people want you to believe.

I remember when I first downloaded that album. From all the times I saw it mentioned on /mu/ I thought it HAD to be metal and I was expecting the best thing since Colors. I was very disappoint when I finally got around to give it a listen.

>> No.3040287

You lost me.

Also Slayer and Anthrax suck.

>> No.3040285

Key is popular because, you know, they're a great company and made two of the best nakige that ever came out from Japan: Clannad and Air.

Sage for comparing 07th expansion with shit like Metallica.

>> No.3040294

I agree with 07th Expansion. That is all.

It's not gonna go bad like Metallica though.

More like their works, at least Umineko, suffers from shitty pacing, amateurish writing and characterization. Even the twists so far haven't be that surprising, Beato's "betrayal" was foreshadowed to hell with that wind and sun strategy, nothing brick shitting so far.
Anyone who think their works are high standard is nothing more than a deluded faggot.
The only reason it gets any discussion is because of its genre.

And the exciting moments found in the Nitro+ VNs translated are much more entertaining than the ones found in FSN.
