Does /jp/ like this game?

>> No.3036053

Too boring. Before someone claims I have short attention span, I did enjoy a lot western quest games. And to think that I bought DS especially to play this game...

>> No.3036065

FInished it, was kind of meh most of the time. Some of the out of the box puzzles were quite memorable though like the stamp puzzle and the code using screen reflections.

>> No.3036067

>>3036047
Kinda lineal. The other one, Room something was much more entertaining.

>> No.3036066

Hotel Dusk was waaay better.

Tears at the end. Ejaculation throughout because of 14 year old.

>> No.3036075

I played Hotel Dusk first and couldn't get into Trace Memory.

>> No.3036081

There are better VN-like games on the DS.

>> No.3036084

I don't think it's /jp/ related though, unlike VNs you use items and stuff

>> No.3036090

>>3036084
It doesn't make it not /jp/-related. In Rance you use items as well.

>> No.3036095

Anyone played the sequel?

I liked it, but it was too easy and short. Hotel dusk was better.

>> No.3036188

>>3036084
Quite a few VNs have that.

>> No.3036192

It was roughly twelve seconds long and a bit predictable.

Not really /jp/-related, but bear with me.

So, anyone played this? I liked the basic idea, but found it waaaayyy too linear. I still enjoyed it though.

Played it for about an hour and never went back to it.

I'm new to VNs, what I've seen so far is that it comes down to choosing limited dialog options and doesn't allow free exploration.

>> No.3036205

>>3036198
It was decent, better than that one with the guy with a golden eye.

Most VNs are like that, but many VNs have other elements.

The last game in this series really sucked.

wasn't too bad, you could play as the little girl. not little enough but it worked.

lol Lux Pain

I thought both were pretty good. Just that Lux Pain had a terrible localisation, with some of the dialogue text conflicting with the spoken dub, and grammar mistakes, etc.

I lol'd when the text said they were talking about Japan, and the dub was talking about America.

Is it worth playing through?

VNs are called 'Adventure games' in Japan.
They have the whole big mess under this title.

If you can go through the bad language, it's worth to go through at least once.

>> No.3036283

>>3036257
Adventure games are the larger category. VNs are a type of adv.

>> No.3036285

>>3036254
Yeah, it's a good one. Just be sure to pay attention more to the dub when they speak, because the dubbed script tends to make more sense then the dialogue text.

>> No.3036291

>>3036283
That's what I said.
VNs are under the big ADVENTURE pot, regardless if they have a hint of gameplay or not.

>> No.3036396

Trace memory was alright, not great
Hotel Dusk was brilliant, although the ending is nothing special (which is sort of like reality since he's just a detective)
Time hollow was better than trace memory, but still alright
Lux pain in terms of story was shit, but in terms of character interaction was far better than the rest. But as people have mentioned, the translation is shit but as long as you're not an idiot you'll be able to work out what they meant

>> No.3036409

>>3036396
I like Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk, so Time Hollow and Lux Pain next?

Then again, I'm still working my way through Avalon Code. So many sidequests, so much fucking pageturning...

>> No.3036419

Trace Memory hasn't aged too well--if you've played LoZ:Phantom Hourglass, for instance, you've seen pretty much the trick to half the puzzles in Trace Memory. But when it first came out, its puzzles were creative demonstrations of what you could do with the DS.

Anyway, I agree with the general consensus that Trace Memory was okay, but not exceptional. It's pretty short so at least it isn't a time sink.

There needs to be more Ashley fanart.

>implying bad writing is superior to a game with actual plot

Time travel stories are hard to screw up but time hollow had bland music and unbelievable characters. I mean who the fuck stands around doing nothing while the guy who killed your parents and mess up everyone's life is going after the girl you like. And when he finally grew the balls to push him off the ledge, he has to reach his hand out for the guy.

>> No.3036461

delicious loli, delicious shota.

>> No.3036490

Since we're on /jp/ I would suggest playing Lux Pain undubbed.

The story drags on forever but somehow I got halfway through it. I plan to finish it at some later point in time.
