Why do you guys play Visual Novels? I started playing Kana: Little Sister a few days ago, and it made me very depressed because I never had a good relationship with my sister. I deleted it off my computer and I've been thinking about it ever since. I might install it again just to see the ending ;_;

I like VNs because they make me feel things. Feeling sad is nice once in a while.

Kana in her early teens was the best, I think.

I like being depressed. Makes me feel something, at least.

I avoid my sister because I'm too ugly and I don't want her to have to look at me. True story.

Honestly? Because other people at /jp/ do. I spend so much time here that I've started to base my identity entirely around what I have copied from here. I want to fit in.

I avoid my sister because I have social anxiety, especially towards females.

I like reading, computer games, anime and music. VNs have all of these. They also convey strong emotions, stronger than any other media I've experienced can, which, um, feels good, man.
In addition, since you have to read thousands of lines while reading them they are an extremely good tool for learning the Japanese language, which besides being a rewarding hobby can prove useful sometime, somewhere in your career.
You can never know. I'm going to work in IT, and Japan is among the top countries in that field.

I don't avoid my sister because we get along well and we have similar interests.

I barely spoke to my sister from puberty til 21ish. I think that lack of a relationship, caused mainly by distancing myself from her during those awkward developmental years, immunised me towards these incestuous type of storyline. I don't feel grossed out by the idea of it, nor do I find it particularly arousing. It's actually quite sad.

I suppose a lot of people were in that thread where OP claimed to have played FF VIII with his dying sister. I don't think it got archived.. too bad.

there's a sad 2ch tale about the brother who told his little sister to keep leveling up his dragon quest VIII character then left for the school. But he never came back.
The poor girl kept leveling up the character for quite some time because she couldn't accept his death.

That's too cruel, especially in a game where it takes close to over 10,000 enemies to level up in the later levels.
