In the Japanese version of Pokémon Adventures (known as Pokémon Special), the young girl is instead named Blue, and Red's rival from Pallet Town is instead named Green, matching the way the names are used in the Japanese versions of the games. When Pokémon Adventures was localized into English, however, Green and Blue switched names, as Pocket Monsters: Green was never released in English, but Pokémon Blue was.

She was based partially on a playable female that the creators wanted to implement but were unable to, and partially on the Red/Green sprite for the “Lass” trainer class.
