I need to hijack this thread since the last Rance one reached auto-sage.

A couple questions. I cleared the game yesterday (with a very shitty score at that). I wanted to conquer Dokuganryuu and a couple dungeons like Hades and the Orochi as well, but I unknowingly went ahead of myself and unleashed that bridge youkai, so I'll have to start over. Anyway, is there a time limit before they bring out that youkai? I was constantly playing in fear of seeing some sudden game over screen because I was monkeying around so much leveling up my characters stats and clearing dungeons. My second question is: how can I recruit Senhime? I looked at the options in all the countries except the ones I didn't conquer (South Africa + Dokuganryuu territory) but don't see an option for her, unless I missed it.

Tokugawa. You must destroy kill him. She eats a lot of NP so you need that too.

Gentlemen, how do I defeat Asai-Asakura? The 2 guards are fucking annoying, and if I manage to finish everyone else off that ugly bastard with the musket comes to the front and kills Rance. The success rate for insta-kill moves are pretty goddamn random, and drastically drops after you manage to insta-kill 2 people. Motherfucker.

Wasn't the earthquake+Rance's laxative supposed to inconvenience a lot of people? Why does it seem to only remove 1 unit from battle, and one of the weakest at that.

Well you can try assassination 2 on then, there are is a "break guard" skill so you can ignore those footsoldiers guard status.

Also you could do a few sabotages before trying to conquer then to soften then up, also dont use the musket unit since even if she does have the potential to destroy a unit she also just have 1 action point, have to be put on the front row and her unit type is not very strong on defense.

A lot of strategies depend on what you have.

Against footsolders I think warriors perform better, also if you have Yamamoto and have her Yamamoto attack you can use it to your advantage since you trim the front AND back row at the same time without any extra action cost.

Being slightly better than generics is a bad achievement. Rance is okay if you absolutely don't have a choice (the very begining), but you can quite fast get troops whose death doesn't lead to game over, like Tokugawa yokai or simply better than him.
Turning him into a superman is a bad idea. Especially considering that he is bushi unit.

What I learned is this.

Losing a front row unit is half way to loose the battle, that is especially true in castle battles were the defense bonus requires us to destroy all the enemy units.

You can try to put Rance as "he sucks" category but that is simply not true, the only issue comes from the destruction of his unit can lead to his death and so a game over but then again, I do not accept the death of ANY commander.

Those commander attacks do NOT get a counterattack. Don't forget that. That works wonders in MANY situations

Actually, it goes a bit further.
When you fuck Natori, you get a Power-up REGARDLESS.
So, you make sure he already has 6 attack,and get a Status-up to 7.
Then, if you have been using him in battle, you should get his normal 'Affection-Sill' power-up, and raise his defense(already 6 by textbooks, hence the luck department on levies).
THEN, do the Elites troop upgrade.
So, with 1 attack and two defenses textbooks, possibly before even turn 12, you can have a unit with 8 attack and defense.
And with Chaos 20% damage, and Autoheal, he becomes a great unit you can use(since you cannot fire him), with MINIMAL resources.
I did not even give him Rance attack, just an extra action point. 1000 Rance troops in 1 star and attack boost from Tactician, halved the Units of Baba Shouen with 2400 troops. Not many can do that.

Rance is actually a great front line unit, the only one I saw so far that is better who isn't a musketeer is Shimazu Kazuhisa. but of course the Shimazu brothers are always amazing in their respective categories.

No death is acceptable to me, I pretty much treat it as a game over if any commander dies and reload. of course it's more acceptable if Rance dies as I can blame that on myself for doing something wrong instead of it being bad luck, however so far Rance has only died twice, once from Shimazu[Fuck you, Toshi] and once from Ashikaga when I was learning how the game works.

I don't see what the fuss is with using Rance, he's fine in early playthroughs where you don't have a lot of commanders to work with, but looses his luster when you have access to house bonuses.

seriously, what other attackers do you have early game. Ranmaru - mediocre, katsuie - footsolider with poor attack, yamamoto - specialized unit with hit or miss attack, the kuge sister might be pretty decent. You don't have access to the stronger units until much later "one eye, mori, kenshin ect."

I went a different way than I usually go in this playthrough, but then suddenly I got trapped.
I have probably missed Kenshin as there was a cutscene with Demon Xavier breaking her arm.

I think all the demon territories to the east get auto captured if you conquer towards the west.

You have the wrong idea about conquering. You destroy families, not make them your vassals. It's far more effective. Iga - take suzume with you next time you are conquering their final territory. Tokugawa - either make him join you (alice soft wikia has details) or destroy him. He will always rebel if you start war with Takeda or they start war with you.

back in my first playthrough I gave up long before you did there, I was that frustrated. Iga rebels if you don't use suzume in the last fight against inukui. Tokugawa rebels if they are your vassal and you declare on Takeda.

Also I think all your vassal states get captured by teh demon army but im not sure.

I'll give you a lot of useful tips then, also http://alicesoft.wikia.com/wiki/Sengoku_Rance:Walkthrough is nice.

You can ignore the riots from Tenshiism till they get to 100% and instead of using a action fan wait till they will riot, they can only riot once per turn and it's pretty much impossible to lose the fight.

Bring Suzume with you when you are attacking the castle, if you do she will kill Inukai. if you don't he will lead a revolt against you later.

Try to conquer Tokugawa before Takeda declares war on you, Tokugawa will declare war on you if Takeda is at war with you.

Generally taking Iga is a bad idea, you should avoid doing so until your second game.

Asai-Asakura is pretty much like Iga, you should wait until your second game to fight them if you can.

Natori from Miko institute is a very good commander and Rance will get a power up if you conquer them, if possible then make sure to do so.

Fish face Ashikaga is the worst thing that exists in the game, leave him in the prison and only recruit him later on if you want emperors ring and clear, then fire him right after.

Tokugawa is dead, you take over the house.

First two reinforcements are kinda sub par. Maria and Uruza however, are amazing (both are second choice for each country). you MUST give Uruza accurate shots affection bonus, it's one of the best skills in the game and even without it she is a strong tactician. Maria nets you two units for free. (Shizuka is accessible only with second game bonus though. She is a Magic analogue)
Lelia and Magic are okay, but hardly anything that special compared to previous units.

I was actually a little surprised when I had a few riots about to start but I decided "fuck this, Takeda needs to die" on my second playthrough and thought that I was going to be attacked multiple times by a strong unit and it ended up with me one shotting the rioter.

The reinforcements are very good actually, the first one for each isn't really that good but the rest are good. specifically Uruza with accurate shots ability you can get from affection boost and Leila. Leila is a really nice commander to have, very versatile. she can ally guard[give her ally guard plus], rape any unit who has higher troop count than her, just strong even with normal attacks and she is a good commander for clearing dungeon trash.

In higher difficulties I prefer not to fight with enemies directly, unless I'm using one of my gain main armies. It's less painful that way. Footsoldier spam all the way and Leila is a bit too frail compared to them.
Cavalry units are especially good with that strategy, because they can go for a second row and don't fuck around with first.

One eyed or Takuga. They give you better shit for conquering them and don't break any gourds. After that go for Mouri. That will be the last gourd, they will give you some more good troops.
Takedas are okay, you only need to capture their two original territories and they will give you all the land. Try to do it before the demon army arrives.

You've already broken five gourds, so I would expect the Honnouji Temple events to happen soon. Try to take the Miko Institute before that happens.

Takeda can be hard your first game around, but keep in mind you only need to take their starting territories (Shinano & Kai) to bring down their house.

Make sure you have 30 commanders and max everyone, especially Rance and Kentarou.
Complete all the dungeons.

Have a shikigami unit at the start of the battle and make him immediately cast All-guard shikigami. Kill the 5 girls around Orochi first. Then use rance attack against him every turn, have a monk(or sill) that casts convert action to do so.

Enjoy your 10 points.

well seeing as how she's a warrior, giving her warrior attack 2 for the extra 10% dmg may not be a bad idea. I also like giving commanders I don't use in battle much the merchant skill for the extra gold.

Another favorite of mine is the field or castle battle expert skill for the powerup in field or castle battles.

You can also get the batle rating down skill for them, pretty good for winning territories defensively. Also there is Uruza which can get the skill accurate shot which takes off one action point from all enemies.
