/jp/, let's have a thread in which we discuss our favorite designs of Touhou - I mean their appeareance, consisting of clothing, hairdo and maybe their trademarks, like Okuus control rod.

I'll start. I am really fond of Yamame's design. I like how the buttons on her dress represent an arachnid's eyes. Or that the ribbon on her head looks like the Chelicerae of a spider.

I'll add to that. Yamame's visual design is based on 黄金蜘蛛, i.e. the Agriope Spider. Agriopes are known for the designs they weave into their webs for increased visibility, so as to prevent their webs being torn down by birds and other small fauna. For this reason, having one around is considered to be an omen of good fortune. Hence 黄金蜘蛛 (koganegumo, or "money spider").

The Agriope have an interesting mating ritual which consists of the male weaving his own web in the neighbourhood of the female's until she gets used to his presence and accepts him as a mate. The females consume the males post-coitus much more seldom than other species within the range, and both are generally amiable and conducive to being handled by humans as well.

tl;dr: Yamame is the goodest spider.

She looks so stylish with that long skirt and those classic red, white and blue colours. And I love her short blonde hair too, as I am a huge sucker for hairstyles that are on the shorter side.

Has anybody else noticed that a majority of Touhou girls are usually depicted with short hair? Does ZUN really like short hair or something? Not that I'm complaining, because if anything, Touhou made me appreciate short hair girls more
