Has otaku now become a catchall term for nerds into anime when used in the west?

>> No.2949301

I don't know, I never talk to anyone who would use that term.

>> No.2949303

No, it has become a catchall term for weaboo wapanese scum who pretend they are cool.

weeaboo is the catchall term for otaku scum

>> No.2949323

Good question

I guess I'll ask around when I'm at Otakon this weekend

>> No.2949329

Wow. People on /jp/ are so coooool. It's so cool to hate everything japanese and hang out on a imageboard called Japan/General.

>> No.2949340

>>2949329
Japan hates otaku. We're just copying them.

>> No.2949414

It's used in a derogatory fashion in Japan. A lot of wapanese idiots in the west use it to refer to themselves thinking it's cool.

>> No.2949487

>>2949291

After being in Japan and coming back here to hear people use the term Otaku for themselves. Yeah, it's fucking disgusting.

>> No.2949609

>>2949329
We don't hate Japan, dumbfuck. At worst we're apathetic to it. We just say that so idiots don't come here and spam "OMG I LUV NIPON" threads.

And the hate in this thread isn't for people who are interested in Japan, it's for morons who use the term "otaku" to refer to themselves, while the term is actually used as an insult in Japan.
