It's not exactly MMD, but I think Touhou Suspense is still one of the best 2hu movie series out there. Plus, it's actually complete, and you can't say that about many projects, MMD or otherwise.

I tried watching the Touhou suspense series, but I just couldn't handle the GTA SA animation & the dialogue was too predictable for me.
It doesn't have the same feel to it like orbital rabbit or private utopia, which is what >>29453910 was talking about.
It was one of his earlier works though, I just wish that it got remade on MMD. It has the same atmosphere of the other 2 I've mentioned, which is mostly empty spaces & isolation. Would've been a good concept.

As I said, he has been doxxed. So he had to retire in some way or another. Probably keeping his stuff up had probably become a burden since that cursed day. I should probably note he almost didn't want to upload his episode 2 after the incident but quickly changed his mind (this can be observed when watching the description history of his video on Nicolog). So we have to be extremely grateful that he finally did it and let his videos up for at least 2 years. Just imagine if he totally melted down right after completion of his episode 2 and would have deleted everything from the get-go (I certainly would have taken it very hard personally). So it's already a miracle we actually had that episode 2.

This is one of the last remaining good MMD drama series. Almost everyone by this point has given up/is shifting over/don't feel like doing it anymore/is taking ages to produce the next episode (we're talking about literal years, not just months)/vanished. Examples of such stalled series:

That's the good reflex to have indeed. Note that the quoted examples all have their works still online. It's just that their authors don't seem care anymore about maintaining their series or purposely leave some doubt around their possible continuation. Maintaining an ambitious series becomes a heavier burden day after day (see also Asatoshi). Not a good sign if all former great MMDers lose their motivation one after the other, leaving only the most rubbish efforts made by newcomers. My prejudice of MMD videos pretty much comes from around those times were every video was some recycled dancing to vocaloid songs. Granted that's why it was made, but that doesn't help its case.
It took a long time for MMD to actually become decent. When I saw stuff like Burning Meiling I was wondering when more MMD vids of this nature will become more popular. They eventually did but really slowly.
Now the "scene" looks better, but most MMD animators are fairly amateur, even the good ones, and take a really long time to produce their animations. They still get crowded by garbage most of the time and don't get as much recognition as they should.

Nowadays, at the very least, I can respect MMDers dedication to Rule 9. Animation-wise, MMD is the definitely the lead on that front. From the most niche and random adverts to scenes from some show there's some MMD 2hu parody of it.

How could I forget about SOFOS CINEMA DOGGIE?

I don't think I've seen that one yet.
On another note, I found some other vids. Looking back on it, you can really "feel" the games after a certain point. Just an observation.

Also, I would also like to know why the fuck western MMD always has to be in the format of short clips and rehashed memes, like it hasn't been done already. You could make the clips, shuffle them around and you would never be able to tell who made it, let alone uploaded it first.

Why can't they realize this? Nothing justifies a creator destroying his own work after people are already attached to it! Nothing! Once you put it out there, the bare minimum you can do is let it be, even if you don't want anything to do with it anymore.

I wasn't talking about Japanese specifically, I figured out a long time ago that preserving (especially fanart) ain't their thing at all. I have no idea if it's cultural or not. There are exceptions indeed, even though it's pretty much the Westerners and Chinese doing the hard work for them.

>>30918488
Sadly going totally out of fashion, as one my earlier posts suggested it. MMDers aren't really motivated anymore and their audience insn't there anymore (especially on Nico where only the trending gets noticed).

More pick-ups. I wish I could post Rebel's video but this little prankster is currently facing problems being in time, first some correction problem, then some encoding problem. This is sadly not very far from the truth. Add to that all those creators who flat-out vanish (D-2 being the most recent example, no activity since August 2020, right in the middle of making something very promising) with noone to really replace them; leaving only the most "rubbish" part of the scene (who curiously stand the test of time much better, probably because they involve much less).

Showing potential is one thing but being productive and reliable is a whole other one. There has been some names (amazato tenri, 华丽Karei, Kobe_495 notably), who showed great things this year, but outside the occasional epic and ambitious PV once in a while, nothing really exciting, or at least as incredible as what we used to have.
Many showing great potential don't get past the epic PV once a year and a mere teaser of something that will never see the day. The best they will do is the usual few-second short on Twitter on a regular basis. Also, many of them don't last very long. I may be wrong but I'm really seeing a slow decline of involvement from MMDers (see the latest MMD Cup and how the 【MZ3:アクション】 and 【MZ3:ドラマ】 tags won't even go beyond one page of results on Nico). And those great efforts get drown into the ocean of mediocrity anyway. People will mostly remember MMD as the picture-story show, yukkuri voice and dance video machine no matter what.

Now if you have some names other than the ones I quoted here (and the ones already shown in this thread), feel free to post them.

One more of them, Azur (formerly Reno) is one of those discreet MMDers who slowly but surely make a nest, doing its own thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leyCHnNAJ9Q

Diamond in the Rough is shit, but the one think I like about it, is that it kinda reminds me of a gangster movie. We have a literal nobody, who quickly gains power and prestige, he slowly gets corrupted by this power. He loses it all: his friends die or turn against him, he is attacked by the enemy he cannot win with and then he dies at the end.

Kinda reminds me of Scarface

Thanks for sharing this one anon, looks stunning even if it's a little rough around the edges. MMD's camera is so jank it's hard to make anything except flat-style shots look good, but it works really well here. Same with the diffuse shading on the models.

I hope azur doesn't fall off the map anytime soon; part of the charm of these short film-type MMDs like these is seeing the creators get better at animating and storytelling with each upload. This whole post sounds like a soul/soulless meme but I've had enough of raycast + beammanDoF dance videos
