If you actually want to spend money but not get a controller for arcade data, DJMax Respect V is pretty much the only game that makes any sense. Anything else is not really worth the money and it's relatively casual friendly. If you're actually serious about hitting keys really fast, just get Quaver or Etterna, both are free.

Stepmania/Etterna is good, free and open source. It has the largest selection of songs of any rhythm game, but you have to know where to download good ones.
Consider getting a pad (a soft one, like $20 to $30) if you want to play with your feet.
I don't know of any multiplayer rhythm games that aren't more than just 2 single player games in parallel.

FPS came out after FP7 & was meant to be a more compact alternative overall & has a smaller TT than FP7. the body of them is the same. in the past one might not have had the EMP style TT grip, but I think they all models get that now? As far as I know, it's "legal" to bring over CABINETS. However, in most cases distributors remove security chips required to make the game work, along with not providing network service. Nobody is running offline rootage / lincle / chinese tricoro (all work offline), so they're all running bootleg (read: illegal / cracked) software.

They don't have any OKs from Konami and occasionally leak unreleased information / future songs. Konami has contacted their distributors multiple times regarding network abuse, they're on thin ice. There's no loophole, playing older versions of games is not a loophole, Konami just doesn't care enough (yet).

Running data in public is usually shunned but if you're not in any "communities" (you shouldn't be, anyways), you can do whatever the fuck you want. At most you'll have some neckbeard "admin" tell you that you shouldn't be doing this, and maybe they'll throw a bitchfit to whoever runs the retro store, but in reality who gives a fuck. If you're paranoid, just have a infinitas setup, but only if you're cool with paying monthly fees heh.

It's honestly not that bad. I usually get away with wearing it under the nose (inb4 moralfags) and I don't have issues with breathing. I always breathe through the nose and out the mouth anyways. I'm not sure it'd be possible to write a guide. There is a lot of pattern recognition and muscle memory involved: not the kind of skills that can be transmitted in written form.
There are some general skills that carry over between different rhythm games, but you still have to put effort into each game if you want to get good.
For example, I mostly play Stepmania with a dance pad, and I struggle with basic stuff with the keyboard since all my muscle memory is about moving my legs and feet. And I find Taiko no Tatsujin hard to read since there is no color coding to indicate the spacing between the notes.

What kind of game do you even want to play? Dance game? Keyboard? Circle clicking?

Figure out what you want your panel height to be and then make the structure sturdy. Control panel height for IIDX is around 35 inches but it really depends on how tall your individual controllers are.
The example I posted uses a large base and has triangular supports. I don't have exact dimensions but you can kinda tell how they went about the structure and just wing it.
