It's called proper lighting
There's also another mechanic that they might hit soon, hostile/friendly/entity cap, as minecraft has a set limit of creatures at once, it outright cuts out spawning new creatures once there are enough loaded, so for example, create enough chickens and not only you will lag the server, but also prevent any new friendly creature from spawning, like cows, more chickens, villagers, golems and such, and if you manage to, even then, produce and secure enough hostiles, lets say by a spawner and water channels displacing all hostiles onto the same chunk with all the chickens, then nametagging them all so they dont despawn, you might create a chunk that, as long as it loaded, will make the server not spawn anytthing at all by natural means
In theory you could also load this lag bomb at the original spawn chunk, because, since minecraft is a ghetto patchjob held together by bandaids, it's perpetually active no matter the player's position or dimension
